Breakeven for me is $0.30 KwH. The assumptions are $4 gallon @ 4.0 miles/KwH; that's my overall conservative average - lower in winter higher in summer. When I saw 0.43C for a KwH, I was shocked. I don't pay attention to the exchange rates and always used $1 = 1.20C, assuming the 3.8L to a gallon would skew/correct the numbers in the right direction. But the devil is in the details......:sleep::(

Gas went up to the equivalent of US$5.32/gal. Home elec cost is 10-13¢/kWh.

Same assumptions @ $5.32/gal; breakeven is $0.41 KwH, assuming your getting the rated 54mpg on the ICE. If the charging station is billing you more than this, your better off driving home under gasoline power and not wasting your time at a charging station. That has it's own cost, which I can't factor in - what is your time worth to you?

For free at my daughter's condo :)

But last September, we went to Trois-Rivières, Qc (300 km) for the weekend and stayed at a Delta Hotel that had J1772 and Tesla Destination chargers ($13 parking fee for everyone but free chargers). Price was similar to other comparable hotels (limited choice) and at five minutes (the closest) of the event we were going. We charge once in Lachenaie, Qc ($11.32) going there and once in Boisbriand, QC ($6.56) coming back, so $17.88 Supercharging for the trip and roughly $2 at home.

If we would have taken the Prime, for 600 km, at avg of 4.266 L/100km or 55.1 mpg (taken from a 221 km trip I did with the Prime last October, according to Hybrid Assistant) and at $1.5/L, it would have cost me $38.39 in gas, about twice what it had cost me in electricity.

At one hotel, charging is a separate cost at the station which meant I could charge overnight, at L2 power and at L2 rates. Win win win (me, the car and the hotel)

Exchange rate has been around 1.35 for quite some times now.

At the numbers cited a 300Wh/mile EV costs same per mile as 22.6 MPG. Not very good but better than having to rent an ICE.

GasBuddy shows 148.4 CDN ¢/liter is common today in Québec.

    At $0.74 USD/CDN that is $1.098/liter. $4.157/gallon USD.

Those are great rates, especially compared to Southern California Edison (for those who don't have PV down there).

And electricity varies from $0.075 to $0.115 (including taxes). $0.075 per kWh is for the first 40 kWh of the day (summed up to the billing period, which is usually 60 days, so for the first 2.4 MWh of the billing period) and what's over that is charged at $0.115 per kWh. There are no other charge, beside a daily charge of $0.50. There are no surcharge or discount based on time of day.

The only place where the gas is $1.49/L is near the border with Ontario. Beside those regions, it's about $1.65/L

I’m not in Quebec lol. I used $1.90 (it’s $189.9/litre) which is US$1.407/litre according to XE dot com and multiply that by 3.785 to get gallons.

Show formula/math please. I think I'm missing a conversion or number somewhere.

They have several fleabag motels around that also provide charging. It's not required to be the Ritz-Carlton before you can get a plug. (but the ritz does have nice soft towels)

If we're smart enough to see the advantage of efficient cars here - then we're smart enough to factor motel costs as well

Thanks for the calculator Louis19; I don't have any issues making that simple calculation.

Its the 300wh/mile = 22.6mpg, I have an issue with. There's a lot of assumptions in between those numbers that needs to be explained. That's why I wrote that my average EV, according to my instrument cluster, is around 4 miles/KwH. I know that's inaccurate because a couple of times it also indicated that i was getting 25 miles/KwH. I was doing a lot of downhill in the mountains but really??? I went up and came back down on the same day, no recharge in-between. I was on ICE when pack was drained, which was 1/4 of the way up the mountain. HV mode the rest of the way. I know for a fact that I would be getting <3 mile/KwH climbing up that mountian with 2 additional passengers, hiking equipment, and highway travel. It's simple basic physics, more weight, more power required to propel vehicle.

The claim was $24.50 for 35 kWh. That is $0.70/kWh. 300 Wh/mile is $0.21/mile. At $4.74/gallon that would be same cost as 22.6 MPG.

All the numbers are in this thread. Do we need to show more detail such as $24.50/35kWh = $0.70/kWh?
