Hi all, just got a 2005 today it only came with one key fob and it doesn’t have the physical key. And the fob doesn’t work to unlock the doors wirelessly or while clicking the button.

it does work to start the car if I insert it into the slot.

Any idea on what I may be able to do to fix this? Can a locksmith cut a new key so I can get in my car if I lock the doors haha.

When you press a button on the FOB, does a small red LED light up in the upper corner of the fob? If not, maybe it just needs a new battery. Should be a CR 2032

The key is available as a blank part number 69515-47010. A smith would need to figure it out for you.
Toyota does sell a new lock cylinder/key set for about $75

May be cheaper just to buy a new case on ebay and transfer the guts from your old fob to the new case. Don't forget to transfer the RFID chip, not just the circuit board.

Yes, you can get a mechanical key made. A dealer should be able to use the VIN to lookup a key code. A locksmith might need you to remove the lock cylinder to make a key.

The key fob, does the red LED come on when pressing a button? (maybe needs a new battery?)

When you have a minute you undo a bolt behind your door panel and that will let you pull the lock out of the door there's a four digit number on the side of the lock or you can just take the lock to a locksmith and he will look at the four digit number on the side of the lock cylinder and he knows how to set his key machine to cut your key to that code of those numbers and then that key will turn that cylinder he'll test it on the spot because you brought him the cylinder and it will work The key that the guy above mentioned will slide into your remote and lock which if your remote is falling apart in the buttons are getting yucky just get us five or $6 case off eBay Make sure you transfer the little transponder chip and the green board and the battery and don't throw anything out Make sure it all goes into the new case Make sure the little trapezoidal shaped chip in the bottom of the remote does not fall on the floor You may never find it look at other post talking about this to see how small it is.

that’s great news with the locksmith! I’m planning to call one Monday. The light does show up when I press the button so I don’t think it’s battery.

Good stuff thanks for the advice! I’ll keep that in mind when I visit the locksmith. The key fob casing is actually in really good condition I’m just not sure how to program it. All of the instructions I’ve seen online for getting it working wirelessly talk about already having a working key fob to clone. Or replacing the battery.

Right so now you can look in the Toyota software that you can steal offline and use with all different kinds of stuff that plugs into a tablet or laptop it's called tech stream and once you have that running you can apparently see how many keys have been registered to the car and all of this kind of business and maybe possibly in there you can reawaken the key that you have when you pull the back off by pulling the button to the side and pull the back off the fob you have now if there's a gray sticker under that you need to take a picture of that You can take that to your locksmith too I think he can get information off that sticker that will help him to help you once you lose that sticker and that remote then you're stuck at the dealer kind of or the receding business and all this kind of stuff but then you will need a new factory remote there's a bunch of fake replacements going around when you pull them apart the board's not even the same shape as the one that came from Toyota but it still has three buttons on it I'm not sure if it can really do anything I think it's some bum remote that people claiming to be able to make fobs sell the people because this thing will go into your slot and it seems like it's booting the car it'll turn on all the lights but it will never get you to ready so you need somebody with a special key making set up and all that to try and make it work but I haven't seen one of these work so I don't know if they will or not sometimes you can make a used fob work but it needs to be a real Toyota one not one of these fakes.
