Simple question I have a 23 Prime SE which has the OEM factory 17 inch wheels and have been looking at aftermarket wheels locks / lugs nuts that fit the wheel.

I have been able to find the lug nut size for the OEM wheels M12x1.5 but can't seem to find the lug nut seating surface type.

What is the lug nut seating surface type for the OEM factory 17 inch wheels Ball / Radius | Acorn / Conical / Taper | MAG FLAT with washer?

I read somewhere that the 2023 Toy PP XSE 19" wheels on the XSE model do not have lug nuts. The hub does not have studs. The wheel is secured with a threaded fastener, not a nut. I don't know about the SE 17" wheels.

My 2023 Prime uses the typical mag style lug nut that most (but not all) Toyota's use. If you're buying aftermarket wheels most reputable sellers will supply the required lug nuts and centring rings if the wheels don't use the factory lug nuts.

If they’re similar to earlier gens the lug nuts have a captured, flat washer, and that washer clamps the stock wheels. Raise one corner and see for yourself?

I was actually looking at getting aftermarket wheel locks for my OEM Prius Prime tires. Based on my research most wheel locks don't appear to help that much but I think I have found a set of locks that actually are tough to remove.

I travel to areas where tire theft is an issue and a bit concerned about tire theft because unlike older Prius's the Gen 5 Rims / Body of the car look a lot nicer and I'm concerned that they are a more attractive target for theft.

Here's the video of the wheel bolts on a '23-'24 PP XSE with 19" wheels.

I don't know about the SE 18" wheels.

I suspect that’s an early video; they’re all lug nuts now.

I figure that's an early 2023 Toy PP XSE video. Gen V Prius.
Have you removed a wheel or even one lug nut/bolt from a Gen V 19" wheel hub?
Was it a Lug Nut of Lug Bolt ?
I guess I'll go out and check one out on My car tomorrow and report back.

The CarCareNut video was made with a pre-production press vehicle. Those cars had lug bolts instead of lug nuts. The actual production vehicles have lug nuts.

It's a guess, but it's possible Toyota had planned to use lug bolts early in the design process until they started receiving reports about the problems the bZ4X was having with its lug bolts loosening over time. Toyota had a hard time figuring out why it was happening and how to fix it, so they likely went back to lug nuts so the Prius wasn't delayed even further than it already had been.

Thanks for the rest of the story, as Mendel pointed out also (Thank you Mendel), they used lug nuts on the Gen 5 PP SE production models.

The two types of lug nuts on the gen5 are:
90942-01007 - fully tapered for steel wheels
90942-01131 - flanged nut for alloy wheels

I know the 19" wheels use the flanged nut. I think the US 17" also uses the flanged nut. I believe the only model to use the fully tapered nut is the very bottom trim in Japan with 17" steel wheels and wheel covers.

So doublecheck your nut to be certain it's the flanged version, then look for locking nuts compatible with 90942-01131.

    They look like this:

Note the above pictured nut has a tapered end as well, to work with the (steel rim) spare.

Lol, maybe they should have reached out to Mercedes or VAG to ask them what magical thing they do to their vehicles that's allowed them to use lug bolts for the last 40+ years.

Most aftermarket wheels are gonna use the 60 deg taper style lugs.

I ended up removing one of the lug nuts and can confirm that they are flanged lug nuts.

    19" alloy wheels ?

PS: I see your information indicatedd you have a 2023 SE model. May not be the same as a XSE model.

The 2023/24 19" wheels use the same lugs nuts as the 17" wheels. Hell I use my 4Runner's lug nuts on my Prime, they're all the same.

I thought the 17" wheels for a gen 5 prius prime were steel wheels. ?
