That's the thing, the 2.5gb data logging backup file got corrupted and that was way before the drive in Colorado... going downhill with dynamic cruise set to 69... brakes and almost did its own B mode to keep the car at 69 due to the steep downhill grade. Once out of the Rockies if not mistaken and on flat roads my HV battery was fully charged.

It's another reason I'm heading up and through Colorado soon as I at least have the rear AWD suspension bolted in without the electric motor.

I'm speaking solely on the butt dyno and the EV range indicator on the dash right.. in my words

you know, when the Prius PHEV first came out. Most said 11-14miles EV range with 2hr charge time wasn't worth it... I said I can't wait for batteries to get smaller and more powerful. This was with me knowing the methods the DIY EV folks were using Gen 2 and 3 components in their builds. The GS450h, that 2013 Gen is also a fan favorite with that crowd and a Mitsubishi SUV AWD rear electric motor.

The thing is too... my network now is vast and lots of folks want to see me be a success with ambitious Prius AWD 500hp Hybrid Max... beating a Baby Tesla non Dual Motor is a quick race at the red light. . .

Also...if anyone wants to use a new OBD2 dongle with wifi and Bluetooth that has a SD memory card slot so no need to have a connected device to log data.. and has a PHEv and thinking they might need brakes in the coming near future, I'd be willing to work something out with you in exchange for your data logging services. :) I'm hopeful it'll work with techstream like the new mongoose does over wifi with some dev work. All else like code reset can be done via a web interface

What would make your logs even better is if you kept some sort of log of all oil changes... tire rotations... octane booster. Or hello! You got data before you knew headbgasket was about to vomit on itself, then after... and then more after the brakes upgrade, which if you get them installed, I'll have a set of fronts sent to you no cost.

I look at it like this. A tesla when brakes are applied, their batteries charge.

Toyota and Tesla vehicle manufacturing occurred on the same facility. For all anyone knows board part number 39587-6755 just so happens to have SOC6 Chip 23556 that has the logic for System 32 and also System 38 which is how Tesla braking does it ... and here we are not stumbling in it because all PHEV owners only use OEM parts!

That was all just how if had to think about a PHEV Prius while recognizing they are two

0.09 miles is less than 500 feet.

My regular, non-plugin 2010 and 2012 Prii did much better than that, more times than I can possibly count, on my regular hills.

Lets not confuse things with logic when magical thinking and butt dynos are at work.

The regenerative braking in the Tesla and the Prius and any car with an electric motor generally speaking would more or less be very similar when you're off the gas or gently applying pedal of brakes . The electric motors are generators are slowing the car down because they are wide open generating power to charge the battery this in turn puts a drag on the system which we're going to call regenerative braking simple as that sounds is a simple as it is now you can throw a bunch of electronics in between all of that stuff and do whatever you want I guess but the reality is what slowing the car down is the drag of the generator alternators on a regular car do this but they don't really slow the car down because they're way up the line connected to a belt running off the engine pulley so it's quite a bit different but anyway Tesla Prius lucid Air very similar in the regenerative braking arena because that's how it works just like to have ABS you have to have certain things and componentry but anyway yeah sounds good I'm going to get brake pads and fancy rotors and I'm going to regenerate more power to charge my battery and slow my car better got it no problem You sir should be selling that mess to somebody ha that's right you are.

regeneration doesn't occur 'when the brakes are applied'.
it occurs when you let off the gas pedal, or apply the brake pedal.
software handles the combination of regen and friction braking percentages.
the brakes (calipers, pads and discs) only create friction, no regen.

so the thought more friction from stronger parts doesnt want to ring a bell of "hmm"

nope, just better friction braking. but i admit, i have no clue really, it's just how it all works in my mind.

No it doesn't, because it just means stronger friction braking. You want more regen, swap out the electric motor.

well, my point in all of this... knowing what I know and have been able to do with a Prius... to then observe said EV range have a significantly improved amount of energy generated to charge my HV battery better or faster than OEM parts lets me know there is more to this than all saying I am wrong.

    umm..

that's why I guess for me the cause to investigate more, I mean, I guess none here have the ability to think outside the box and even attempt to understand something that falls outside of text book verbiage and what some seem to think is common knowledge.

gawd, if you are a PHEV Prius owner and want to find out, lets talk...

It’s not a matter of thinking outside the box, it’s a matter of you prematurely making a claim and saying you’ll do the testing in the future.
Present your data, and who can disagree with you?
Plenty of people here have installed aftermarket brakes of all kinds, and no one has ever noticed an increase in regeneration

ehh, I've yet to see it done on a PHEV tho! Can't a guy get astonished by something that defys general logic and post about it with the hopes that someone might have experienced the same thing? why must we shoot down any concept thats foreign to us?

man, folks would be stuck with a 1.5"-inch lift kit thinking that's the most they can do had someone decided to push past the thought of a sweet spot... now, its funny too because you have other lift manufacturers now making tall lift kits after seeing it be possible! granted, I was wrong about using one PHEV battery module in a Gen 2, but so far that's the only think outside the box theory that I misjudged... no thanks to you all tho

Of course you can. I feel your excitement, there just don’t seem to be many here who share it.

It is seemed that my friction limits have nearly always been tire rubber on (frequently wet / snowy / slushy) pavement, not brake pad on brake disk.

you know... great point you think outside the box thinker. LOVE IT!

like I mentioned earlier... I was shocked to see the dashboard display show something other than it has before and my brakes werent even bad, I changed them proactively knowing where I would be taking the Prius and wanted more stopping power.

    Seattle. Check.

And a skier too, not skipping out for any road conditions that are still open.
Considering how much less regen your plug-in was getting compared to my two non-plug-ins, I must wonder how much unnoticed brake drag you were suffering before that brake work.

Now that I do have a plug-in (though not a Prius), will be testing it too.
