    Hi there everyone!
Well one of my new tires was attacked by a huge bolt. Ouch! When the road service guy took the spare tire out there was a bunch of liquid under the spare tire. He drained it out before I could take a photo and said it looked and felt like water with a little bit of oil in it. Any ideas? Always something! Thanks!

Anyone else having trouble uploading photos? I usually don’t have a problem.

photos uploads has been broken since the server migration a couple months ago. there are workarounds in the migration thread.
water in the tyre well is fairly common. check the 12v battery area too.
it's usually cracks in the raingutters under the black garnish, or hatch seal or hinge bolts.

Thanks. I scrolled through migration thread and lost patience. : } Appreciate your response. I’ll check those areas once the tire is removed from cargo space.

He said tire is trashed because the bolt went in at an angle and is definitely more than 1/4 inch. New tire won’t be in until Monday which is making me think about dealing with a 2024 Prius with no spare. Can’t imagine having to wait multiple days with no spare. As it is I’m not going far with this 15 year old spare. Will get it towed to tire store on Monday which is 30 mins away by highway.

Well that's good on you I guess I've driven around on a bald spare that was in the back of my 2008 Prius was a yellow spare metal rim with a mini tire on it I put it on the back and put a good tire on the front and drove around on that for a week mainly because I had some stuff to do I doubt your spare is going to do much very interesting to be honest You want to put it on the back if you can other than that water in your trunk is very common If you look right behind the battery but in the spare tire well floor you'll see a rubber plug push it through grab it and throw it in the trunk now when water comes in through wherever it's coming it will go into the spare tire well instead of sitting there and freezing it will do what run out the hole you just opened It's called pass through that's what that's all about those plugs are stopping your pass through there's also some plugs and some holes that could be drilled where the 12 volt battery is and over on the other side where the little container is for nuts and bolts and other stuff You put a few holes in strategic places and water will pass through instead of building up which the buildup is causing you problems and eventually moisture sitting back there in the spare tire well can turn your HV battery into a terrarium water dripping off the roof of the case of the HV battery right into the modules and all of that no kidding You can see pictures of this all over the internet I'm pretty sure.

He drained it and put the plug back in. You are saying remove the plug permanently? I never thought about it hurting the HV battery. Ugh! I’ll check around the 12v battery today. Thank you!

Over near your battery and on the other side where the battery doesn't go where that little container is there are push out rubber plugs in place I push them out and I drill a few extra holes like quarter inch and a couple low spots in each of those side wells where the battery is and where the battery is not on the other side so if I pour a 2 l bottle of water over there in those corners it runs right out onto the ground outside the car then in the spare tire well back towards the front of the car when you're standing in the back of the car the plug that's closest to the HV battery I pull that plug out and just leave it laying in the spare tire well now if I pour a 2 l bottle straight into the spare tire well it's going to run out that big hole I just opened up by taking that rubber plug out The water is passing through that's ideal standing is not ideal standing water in a vehicle turns the vehicle into a terrarium water droplets will build up on the headliner and drop back down onto the seats and to the floor seriously so you want water generally to pass through the body or chassis not sit wanted to be on its way to somewhere else not standing in your enclosed car body space.

As Bisco said that is fairly common over the years, there is a place where hatchback is open to vent by the battery, and car washes can sometimes push water in. Then there are other poss reasons. I pretty never went to auto car washes.
