2009 Prius Body Damage - Another Deer

that's an easy repair, just replace the hood, headlight and fender with matching color, it might cost you same as your deductible (or lower/higher)

if you have comprehensive/collision coverage, ask your insurance company agent if they'll total it out or repair.. unless somebody in this forum is an insurance adjuster and can tell you online by just looking at the pics.

 

I just got done fixing my goal 2009 Prius with the same exact damage except my front bumper cover was damaged the piece of chrome that runs right in front of the radiator and was bent and twisted My right side was fine I found the two front fenders in the front bumper cover off a perfect black car so I bought the right side and the left side front fender and the bumper cover I put all this on in my driveway in about an hour I also had to replace the right headlight but I don't like the fake right headlight that I've got so I've got to go hunt down a real factory right headlight to match the left Don't take me but about an hour or two to go pick it up and then that'll be finished your damage is very similar so on and so forth should be able to be done right where the car sits in the driveway or it can go to a body shop and you can spend whatever they tell you to pay them just depends on what people can do this car was never off the road but like I say about an hour. I didn't want to paint anything so now my gold car has two front black fenders and a front black bumper cover It looks kind of reminiscent of a Hurst old's w30 pace car in the old black and gold colors although it's not a Hurst old pace car.

 

You're right up the road from me I'm in North Carolina Central you're in Virginia God knows where but no matter You should be able to ride out in the country if that's your thing and see Prius parked in people's yards with no tags on them up around Mount airy North Carolina and over the border in Virginia they're just sitting in people's yards off of the main roads You can see them from the street Don't create an accident but they're they're there just pull into the yard and get out and knock on the door and ask the people hey I see you have a Prius here I'd like to buy that whole car for parts or the front hood bumper grill left and right fender whatever hows 250 bucks sound?

 

Pull the pad down on the underside of the hood then you'll see how to get the sprayers out Not really much to them Why bother if you're getting another hood they're not going to take the sprayers out they're going to leave the hood complete That's how the salvage business works they don't spend a lot of time stripping down a hood of things that need to be on the hood for it to work on the car generally speaking now if you're dealing with a bunch of yahoos that don't know anything about the salvage business then things may get different real quick and that's why you want to work with companies that are used to dealing with industry standards once you start dealing with twat waffles on the internet they have no standards they they are up to internet standards which aren't up to any industry standards at all so they'll do things and ship things as a joke and then laugh about it when you start sending emails about hey man why are the sprayers not on the hood and what happened to the underpad and the little clips that hold it on so on and so forth to these kind of idiots this is fun and games and jokes and then they'll block you and commence to tell their customers that you're an asshat and you don't know how the business works. This is the modern age of humans that want to be business people and here they are and don't buy any serious parts from these kind of people like brake actuators and serious things. Because their liable to do something to the part to make sure it never works or antics and things like this go on with these type of vendors a lot they're trying to create stories so they can put them on their other pages and get likes and clicks the business has nothing to do with anything remember the internet is all for likes and clicks in other places anyway your parts should be easy to locate but I wouldn't run around insurance adjusters and all that if you're claiming this on your insurance and you're trying to get insurance to pay for it then generally they're going to handle it or something along those lines If you're going to fix your car and then hand the insurance company a bill well that's a different story but trying to piece meal things together and mess with an insurance company you can get yourself and do a little bit of a mess It can happen so there's always that so you're either fixing the car and buying the parts or your handing it to an insurance company and it's going to a body shop and one hand will wash the other in your car will get back to you fixed whichever it is I don't know If insurance companies doing the work you don't need to be doing anything about searching for parts and doing anything on the internet why? They going to handle it.

 

Insurance company will get the parts for a lot less than that I paid less than $300 for the parts I just said I bought and I have a dealer account at the salvage yards that I deal with so I'm treated just like an insurance adjuster or a body shop so for the perfect two front fenders and bumper cover that I purchased just the other day off this 09 that look like it had been driven into the junkyard It was clean as a pin I'm going back to get doors and seats out of it next week probably I mean even all the plastics underneath this car were perfect The fender liners perfect The little spoiler looking things that are on the end of the fender liners were in perfect condition still screwed in untouched these are usually the first things to get broken off these cars The damn that goes from under the front bumper cover back to the lower radiator support and shrouds the oil pan and all that was imperfect condition they gave me all of those pieces because they had to take them off to get the other parts off so they just threw them all in a pile I paid $225 for all that

 

They want to know if you have factory HID lights That's what they're asking You should know this about this model car if you have this or not The easiest way to check this is to get out of the car put the headlights on and go look if they're halogen they'll be in orangey yellowish kind of color if they're the HID they'll be more of the whitish blue green color and when you flip from low to high beam it's not as noticeable It does make a difference you can't mix and match If you know what the h4 headlight plug looks like You can look at the back of your headlights with the rubber grommet removed and you can see the plug another way to quickly check is if you have a big rubber grommet that you can pull off the back of your headlight that's halogen If you have HID you have a solid piece of plastic that has to be lefty loosey to unwind the tabs to pull the piece off and you won't forget removing it so there's always that so if you look at the back of your headlight if you feel rubber that's halogen headlights If you feel solid plastic that's HID D4 something bulbs and the prices they're giving you are about regular junkyard retail no problem regular junkyard retail no problem

 

That is correct and then you'll aim the housing by probably cranking on that little silver adjuster about eight half turns and then you can set the cut out on your garage door and whatever feet you're supposed to be at and all that nonsense but yes that means you have regular halogen housings with H4 LED headlight bulbs installed and said housings.

 

you need your insurance involved because you could get extra money in your pocket if you're going to do the repairs yourself. If they repair or total your car, there will always be extra money due to collision shops charging so much for a simple repair.

if you only have liability coverage then don't bother calling your insurance..

 

A deer mishap is normally covered by comprehensive insurance, but not everyone keeps paying for comprehensive on older cars.

Read your policy binder- if you don't have comp, there's no point in calling them for this.

 

Don't start any repairs on the car until you get instructions from your insurance. It will be inspected by the adjuster or they'll have you drive it to a collision shop for estimates. The shop or the adjuster will give the estimate and give you a check for both repair or total situations. If it's totaled you have the option to buy it back, if not then you have the option to just get the check instead of having it repaired from their preferred shop.

 

The elephant in the room that everyone is avoiding . . . "is that deer in the freezer?"

 

@ Freezer:
In Virginia, you get to keep the deer - if you want it AND if it wasn't turned into road pizza on federal land.

@ Insurance:
A 15-year old Prius with two deer symbols painted on the driver's side door needs to be a 'liability-only' car. otherwise you are going to be paying a LOT more for insurance than you need to.
If you're going to keep the comp - then you need to see how much you would save by raising the deductible.
If your insurance company drops you, then you're going find out the hard way how much you COULD be paying.

I would call my agent and tell them that you're going to cash-flow the repair for this deer-strike, and discuss the options for raising your deductible or eliminating comp altogether.
I kept the deductible for my 2006 Envoy (210,000 miles, no claims in 30 years, no tickets, USAA) BUT it was costing me less than $20.

USAA ain't what it used to be either they're reviews are going down the toilet fast they just tried to throw me into the facility in North Carolina It's an insurance market blah blah blah after 34 years of the lowest rates on the planet they trying to quadruple my rate for a parking lot fender bender that my wife had literally scratched bumper cover unbelievable I got insurance from another company for 1/3 of USAA's rate same coverage all of that It is quite unbelievable My dad must be rolling over in his grave He thought very highly of USAA throughout his service career We also used Marine Midland Bank which is predominantly a military bank I imagine it's gone to hell too like everything else today quite interesting.

 

Colorado too. I've gotten a few myself.
