I had the dealer install their own integrated dashcam. I got no instructions for it, just a card that says to refer to page 14 of the manual. But there's nothing about it there, or anywhere in the manual. I downloaded an app called "Toyota Dashcam" but it was for a different dashcam.

After about an hour of searching online, I found the manual by using the model number that was on the unit. It's made by some third party, not Toyota. In there it said the specific name of the app to download, which had the same name and icon, but it was for my dashcam, not the other.

It comes with an 8GB micro SD card, which doesn't give you a lot of hours of recording time. Nowhere could I find what was the largest capacity card I could use. Turns out, it rejected all the larger cards I had, so I have to stick to the 8 GB.

I don't see how it's "integrated" with the car, unless I'm missing something. There's just a power connector in the upper console as far as I can tell. Why the dealer said it was an all-day job to install it, I don't know. I also don't know why such a rudimentary dashcam cost me nearly $700 to have installed.

Oh yeah, you guys in Canada get a different dashcam for some reason. In the US, that dashcam only goes in the 4Runner. It's a rebrand of a different company's unit, but I forget which one. And it also looks like yours(and maybe ours) is getting replaced with a new one that includes a rear camera option. It appears to be a rebranded Blackvue DR770X Full HD Cloud with a custom power connection(and without the port for the LTE cloud storage option).

The first app you were referred to was probably the app for my style of dashcam. Technically, my style is called the Integrated and yours is called the Genuine. In either case, integrated just means it taps into the car's power system through a connector above the map light assembly rather than using a wire that plugs into the 12V power port or a USB port. It doesn't mean it integrates into the car's information system. I would tend to agree that it's borderline misleading labeling. It would be nice if at least the main Toyota app was integrated with the dashcam app, but (because of the apparent ability levels of the Toyota programmers) that would probably just lead to an app that couldn't do either job.

And it's absolutely not worth $700. I paid about $320 altogether(dashcam + wiring harness) and did the install myself in a couple hours of prep(searching and doublechecking all the info) and maybe an hour in the car.

My version(Integrated) can use any microSD card up to 128GB as long as it's formatted in FAT32. The manual for yours(Genuine) doesn't give any specs as to the card limits. In fact, the specs sheet in the manual is seriously light on details. Here's a link to all the Win/Mac software and manuals for it: Dash Camera Viewer

As an aside, you might want to correct your profile. You've got Prius Prime and XLE listed. Since the Prime doesn't come in an XLE trim, it should either be Prius + XLE or Prius Prime + XSE. It just helps those of use trying to answer questions to know exactly which model and trim level you have. Doesn't apply to this topic, but it could in another.

I feel like I got taken. The dealer-installed dashcam is like a cheap one from 10 years ago. I could run to a local store and buy a much better one for half the price. But it doesn't help to complain here. Shame on me, I guess.
