Remote door locks not working and I've checked the key FOB battery and the button under the steering column. So hears what happened... I had a couple leaks that I was troubleshooting during the winter, one which seems to be the windshield and the other in the trunk area. Water was puddling in the far left and right corners of the dashboard, when I would accelerate water would run down the dash, the floor boards were also soaked. I'm sure water was getting under the dash and effecting who-knows-what electronics in there. The leak in the rear looks to be from debri that accumulated at the mounting points of the trunk cylinders and caused water to run in either through the cylinder mount screw holes or body panel seams. I'm fixing the leaks now. Now the big event: Temperatures dropped into the teens followed by freezing rain for 4 days. The car was encased in a block of ice and I'm sure all the water in the car froze solid and damaged something. So, where should I start troubleshooting? No codes.

Nothing on either of the fobs work in regards to the remote buttons. Car starts only with the fob in the slot. Light still lights up on the fob when pressing buttons. Tried both fobs and new batteries. Fobs stopped working right after the car froze with lots of moisture inside.

Could the door control receiver have failed and not generate a code?

that is a possibility. i think it is under the center console. best to check the 12v health to eliminate that possibility first. you can get a free load test at autozone i am told

What are you using to scan the car?

"No codes" could mean that the tool didn't find codes in the 2 or 3 systems it can talk to. Or it could mean that tool actually checked all 14-16 systems on a Gen2 Prius and there were no codes present.

I only "trust" a scantool that lists all the systems that were checked and reports whether each system did or did not have any codes present. Here's part of a "health report" (system scan) on my 06 using the Autel AP200.

Also, does your car have a sunroof? I find that water leaks at the front of the passenger compartment / dashboard area are often the result of clogged (or disconnected) sunroof drains.

Another "leak" source can be that the A/C housing drain is clogged. (but that wouldn't leak water onto the top of the dash). Screenshot_20220429-195542.jpeg

Actually, I haven't scanned the car at all. I assumed that if there is an error code at all, I will get an error light. So the car can generate fault codes and keep them and not turn on some form of a CEL? I do not have a sunroof. I believe the leak in the rear is from the body panels separating. I can see where the water is coming in and see a small crack in the exterior paint at the body panel seam. I'll check the 12v system and see what I find. Again, it's interesting to have a fault code that wouldn't present itself without a scanner.

Not every system on the car had a warning light. For some that do, not every fault is programmed to turn that light on. (on some cars it seems you would never keep all the lights off)

An old car like a Gen2 has 14-16 systems - plus a few others that do not talk to a scantool. Newer cars easily have over 25 systems with a crazy number of lights and indicators.

Cracks in the body seams around the tailgate are common on the Gen2. Usually extends up into the drip gutter channel under the black rubber strips.

Don't see windshield leaks very often, unless the glass was replaced (and they did a poor job of sealing it).

Gotcha. I dug around in my old computer junk and found a working winxp and win7 laptop. I'll look into getting techstream going, never messed with that before. The crack in the body seam did run up underneath the black rubber strip. I painted some flexseal on it and so far so good. The door control receiver box I found was in the rear of the vehicle, up high behind an interior panel on the driver's side. I tried to post pics but just get an error message. Once I figure out the techstream software I'll see what is going on. The car was actually hit by a deer on the driver side front fender. The panel was replaced but a seal could have been damaged who knows where.
