DRCC, LKA: Already spoiled!

I know what you mean! Even from gen 4 to gen 5 the DRCC is much better at keeping distance, and more smoothly braking and accelerating. It's nice also have 4 distance buffers to choose from. The lane tracing feature with the DRCC mostly works great too. Nicely auto steers, keeping car in the center of the lane most of the time. Although, it hounds a bit too much about keeping hands on the steering wheel.

 

I also like having regular cruise to choose if for some reason DRCC just isn't cutting the mustard in traffic on the hwys and byways.
I've had the experience in DRCC several times of drivers in the lead slowing down to 15 or 20 mph off the limit and when I notice and go to pass, than they speed up to 10 to 20 over the limit.... Drivers. Ah I've got regular cruise too, ha ha.

 

What year and model was your Gen 4?

 

You might want to check out the new winter tire tech called "3 Peak Snowflake" specification. You can search them on Tire Rack, or I use Discount Tire. They sit in between All-Season and dedicated Snow tires. Chains not required, and I leave them on year round since I hate swapping wheels/tires (mostly the storage of the odd set). We live above 7,000 ft on Palmer Ridge in a wooded subdivision so the snow/ice remains on our roads forever, way into April, and these have great traction plus ride nice enough to leave on year round as I said.

OK, yours had TSS-P. Starting with my 2021 Prius Prime, they had TSS 2.0. Starting with 2023 Prius Prime, they have TSS 3.0.

TSS-P did not have lane centering.

I use DRCC with lane centering on my 2021 Prius Prime with TSS 2.0 all the time.

In any case, I wouldn't trust these systems too much, as the owner's manual literally instructs not to do so. Always watch the road when you are using DRCC with or without lane centering. They are far from being capable of handling every situation. Nevertheless, they are very useful as a copilot.

 

Correct, no effect on MPG. My issue is not getting stuck, I will never go out in deep snow. I always wait for the county plows to make a pass. My issue is slip/sliding on the slick surface.
