OK, you took me to task and I did some digging online looking for G951047031 HV battery pack from genuine Toyota sources.
It was actually a bit confusing because the part was marked everything from, "Not for Sale", to "No Longer available for purchase", to "Discontinued."
But I also found several sources listing it for everything from $3,300, $1,950(msrp), $1,699, $1,655. It looks like they do not include the battery ecu, or the HV terminal block, some of the sheet metal, and some other pieces, but I was expecting that. Core is $1,350 so I would have to figure the 2-way shipping. But if the $1,655 is legit, and the Warranty is valid for DIY installation, I will be happy. Or better yet, if I can get it within driving distance.

Almost sounds too good to be true. I wonder if there is a catch??

The first dealer I called said the new HV battery pack G951047031was not available. I tried a second dealership this AM and they can have it for me tomorrow. They quoted me a price several hundred over the MSRP , and I politely asked if they could come down to the MSRP of $1950, and they said yes, we can do that. Sweet!

Replacing the 2 individual modules for a little bit of money gives me confidence for installing the brand new high priced pack myself. Previously I had thought that would be a very risky job for a DIYer.

BUT, is there any ECU "learning" or such that will need to be done during install?

Just picked it up. The $1,350 core charge makes sense: $350 for the batt pack, $1,000 for the crate.

 

Huh. I must be a better photographer than I realized. My shop looks nice and clean and organized.

 

YEA! IT'S DONE!

I installed the new HV Battery pack yesterday afternoon and of course it gave me some more error codes and the red triangle. The 12v battery was low and it was time to end the frustration for the day, so I disconnected it and put a charger on it. The next morning (today) still error codes and red triangle. I studied the codes and they were all HV battery and controller related; like low HV voltage. I had already, prematurely, buttoned everything back up, so I took off the one inside trim and metal brace to expose the control box enclosure for the HV Batt, and removed the sheetmetal. I checked the HV and it was 226Vdc, so no problem there even though the codes said there was. The wires on the plug from the batt to the computer were a bit tight so I clipped a ty-wrap that was putting them in a strain, and worked on all the wires on all the connectors to make sure the pins and wires were all nicely seated.
I tried hooked the 12v ground back up and put the safety disconnect back in, and what do you know, no codes or bad lights. I took it on a 40 mile errand and all is at peace!
Lesson learned: connectors need your TLC or they will not be your friends.

A one month update

Everything is still going fine with the new replacement battery pack.
No glitches whatsoever.

My final out of pocket for the brand new Toyota battery pack was $1950 from my local Toyota dealer. No shipping involved. I picked up the new battery, and returned the old one the next day. They first quoted me a higher price on the phone, but I asked if the could give the MSRP and they said yes. Buying it local was easier than I thought it would be.

 

I can see why some of the companies that sell the rebuilt packs offer free delivery and installation. Driving the pack to your house can be easier than working with a trucking company, no massive truck-worthy shipping containers needed and the hassle of shipping hazardous battery packs, and the pack can be swapped by a pro in an hour.
A backyard mechanic can do it the first time in a day or 2. What slows the backyard guy down is if you swap it and still get errors. The trouble shooting help offered here by dolj and others makes it possible to solve the installation problems that have a good chance of happening. dolj preached about checking all connectors, and he was 100% right.
