New Toyota battery back down to $1655

Wait a minute Big markets like North Carolina Washington DC places like that the bigger outfits like Rick Hendrick they generally will honor whatever If it's an advertised internet price that you can get as a quote usually another Toyota place will pick it up or like you say they'll get me close enough that I don't want to hem and Haw over the $150 or whatever it exactly is it's just not worth my time. So I'll deal with that them taking your exchange should never ever be a problem You're exchange should be a Toyota battery with a silver cover and the stickers uncovered not abused not burned off not spray painted to personalize it or any of that nonsense as stated when you ask about the core. If you can't meet those simple requirements then you're going to get charged to $1,500 I guess for being maybe a smart butt I don't know. We've had no troubles with exchanges I even took one back with a painted cover but the painter had masked the factory stickers so that they remained visible all the stickers with all the pertinent numbers The guy said something about the paint and I told him yeah well I guess it looks better but that's why this was done and that ended that and I said well I can take this cover and you can have the nice shiny silver one for your core if you like either way I was there prepared with the front end off the battery and ready to do my part of the deal let's not hold up the show.

 

Have you found any offering 1655?

 

I called my local dealership the other day and was quoted $1850 for the battery and $1350 core return. He also said they don't do over the counter sales of the battery, they only do the installs themselves or sell to other shops. Is there any way to circumnavigate this so I can save by doing the install myself, or do I just have to suck it up and pay for the labor?

 

I see you're in South Carolina so who is your Toyota dealer Rick Hendrick or whoever the trick to doing this is you go online to Toyota and you buy the battery try it and then you have that battery sent to the dealership that's closest to you whatever their policy is is going to go out the window when you come in to pick up your battery that was sent to the store for you to pick up Make sure your name is on the pickup ticket as obviously will it will be on the billing information but you listed as the pickup person You're a full name as it appears on your driver's license If this is the Toyota parts manager telling you this he is full of poo poo and you should call him on it and tell him so I would like to know who this dealer is in South Carolina and what city you're in I have family in four counties down there never heard such didddly squat.

 

My local dealership is Spartanburg Toyota. The guy just seemed like a parts rep. He didn't mention anything about buying it online, he only said if I order through them at the parts counter he thinks that they have to do the install. He said "I've been here 2 years and nobody has ever asked to purchase them over the counter to install themselves." But that the manager would be back in Tuesday.

 

In this day and age you don't do anything at the parts counter You get online Spartanburg Toyota should have its own website or it's in the Toyota system You order the battery less than what he's talking about and you have it shipped to that dealer they take your 1350 they take the price of the battery it's about 3,500 or whatever it is dollars is $13.50 is back at you the next business day usually

 

Well that doesn't sound bad at all, and I'm over here cycling 15 year old modules for the 5th day in a row hoping I can get up to 4,000 mAh discharges from them. So I just bring the old one with me when I pick it up? You guys use a wheel barrow or what? Lol mine is a long walk from the parking lot to the parts counter.

 

There is a place where you can get to the dock at all Toyota dealerships You have to walk it and go see where it is or whatever the dude will meet you out back You have to go through a fence no matter just back up right to the loading dock and hand it out the trunk drop it on the ground take the new one out of the stupid looking packing case set it down you'll need to have the front end off your battery or another battery The front end doesn't go with the core just the rack of modules The computer and the relays you undo the 3/10s and you keep that Don't give that up you won't be able to get your car running.

 

You go online right now and see what the story is You should be able to get a total and everything with a few keystrokes use the dealership closest to you for the pickup and drop off point they have to be equipped to handle that

 

I'm looking at their site now It is very cumbersome and slow looks like on purpose but it looks like after you fill out the barrage of BS you'll be able to order your battery online pick it up drop off the core at the dealer and everything from your online order

 

Yeah I did just fill out the parts request form, also yeah I was aware of the Eacau and relays needing to come off. Just wasn't aware it was only 3 10mm bolts.

So I guess we'll see. Toyota of Greenville is about 45 minutes away so that would be a second option although I dont see the battery or a parts request on their site. But I would jump all over getting the battery for less than $1700.

 

A better idea is to pick up the battery, bring it back and install it taking what parts you need from the old battery.

When you're sure you have anything you need from your old pack you pack the old battery into the crate in the way they need it to be. Then return the crate and get your core deposit back.

 

Yeah you can do that if you don't mind making two trips to the place that doesn't have a loading dock and they have to wheel the mess across to you as your description before. Or if you have access to another battery or another car like I do here I just have the front ends off of the batteries in the space and I try to do it all in one shot I put an old junk battery rack of modules and the Toyota cover that's been unpainted with the label showing and all that with the 10 mm bolts holding it together and I drive over there with that because it's already stripped the front end is off and I hand them that they let me uncrate the other battery from the sealed crate that it's in and I load that in the car and I drive back home still on the dead battery that's I drove there with The battery I gave them is another one that I have just the rack then when I'm back home I put the front end on the battery pull the other battery out of the car that I drove there on put the new assembly in save that other rack of modules for the next change out and that's that no need to make two trips The only thing you should be taking off your old battery is the 310 mm or the five if you count two on the side and it just pretty much falls off the ground and the cables that go to the relays are just pulled through and hanging that's what you're returning You're keeping the rest You're not going to need any of the phone pieces or anything else under that metal cover because it comes with the new battery That's how it ships

 

Well that all sounds good, honestly I'll probably just drive there with the battery in the trunk of my MDX and swap them out in the parking lot..its a 30 minute drive 1 way. Still no response from the dealership however. I just finished up the cycling and load test on my almost 16 year old batttery with an average of 4200 mAh discharge..maybe I can squeeze another year out of it. But if they message me back with that $1655 price tag..SOLD!
