Agreed. Don't think I would ever own a set although I can see putting them on the wife's SUV just for her peace of mind.

 

Yep I'm old-school and NOT comfortable driving around with no spare tire. (Yep, I've had flats and even with our 2017 Prius after we drove down a gravel road to visit a great hiking spot.) And you never get a flat when it's convenient...it'll be during horrible weather and/or at night!
A spare isn't too expensive...I ordered the rim on-line from McGeorge Toyota because I was surprised our local tire shops don't sell spare tires. McGeorge doesn't ship tires so I had to go to my dealer to order the tire. I think it was around $75 for the rim and $120 for the tire. I, also, replaced the crappy Toyota scissor jack with a much better one. (On Amazon)
I'll, probably, never get a flat but I know it's back there...I put a vinyl cover over it so it's not too noticeable.

We bought Honda, for decades, and with their scissor jack the connection to the cranking bar (thing that looks like a mini shepherd's staff) was a plate bent into a U-shape, with both legs of the U having a hole, like this:



This double plate connection is very stable when cranking.

In comparison, the soft-metal casting Toyota uses, well, sucks:

Why crank when I can just pull a trigger?

 

My dad's friend made this set up for a friend with a Tesla, but it can be done the same for a Toyota or any other scissors jack. It can be used with an impact driver, a 1/2 inch impact wrench, a flex ratchet wrench or a 21mm ratcheting box wrench.

He achieved a unique rigid mount of the adapter by using a combination of hex flange nuts and floang bolts. One of these resides tn my car.

No, it's a liquid "slime" aerosol that you pump into the tire and then inflate it with a small electric air pump. Gets that gunk all over the inside of the wheel and ruins the TMPS sensor.

 

So, my wife bought a Prius XLE to replace my car she was driving when another Prius drove through a red light and took off the front of my 2015 Prius pkg IV. She informs me that in Thailand the Prii that are sold come with a spare tire, jack etc. in the usual places.

I suppose, since we are in an advanced country, we don't need to carry that stuff with us. It would be nice, though! So that's how they got to 54 MPG, less weight.
