Maybe the Silverado 4WT will be released to us commoners (vs fleet sales) before the Cybertruck is ready for my wife to configure…

To be fair to those who put a reservation in while pricing was still on Tesla’s webpages the starting price was a very reasonable $39,900 and the “500+ mi range” started at $69,900. So tack on the FSD at the then $10k resulted in a 500+ mi range armored, ludicrous speed, FSD truck @ just under $80k. That, would be a great value, even if you hated the looks, (which I don’t)…

Being bullet proof is a nice feature ... I guess ... but will a standard 8' sheet of plywood fit in the bed?

I could put several sheets of plywood in my 2002 Honda Odyssey and close the trunk (did this several times while building my cottage, plywood, drywall, etc). Even a 10 foot ladder did fit and closed the trunk. Longest item I've put there is a 12 foot gutter and closed the trunk (did reach over the dash, but it did fit). Nothing got wet. Trucks are over rated. Vans are more useful IMHO.

Break even? When you are buying a depreciating asset? Never. How would you break even if you buy a Harley, or a Cessna, or a Cadillac. Ain't going to happen. Perhaps we are talking about different things. If you mean fuel costs, the lighter the vehicle the less each will use. The heavier the vehicle? The way more fuel it will use. So if you are charging a cyber truck that has been fully amortized just using electricity from your house,
.... it depends how many miles you would drive in each. It wouldn't be very long though - Apples to Apples, for instance comparing against a diesel F-250 pickup truck refueling on $7 California diesel - versus $3.99 somewhere in the southeast.

Take in the initial cost, the fuel cost, the depreciation, the insurance, maintenance, consumables (tires, wiper blades, etc). Now how long before a The Truck is a better financial decision than a hybrid Maverick?

Of course when buying a vehicle of any type, you balance wants and needs and intended use. There are always trade-offs. AT $39k you might make one decision, at double that, not so much. And as for the $120k version ... I could but I won't. I don't invest in cars, I use them. Which is why total cost is important.

I'm waiting for the price on that rear wiper blade.

The couple I inadvertently caught on camera were talking about the wiper, guy saying he’d like to see how it worked. I then interjected that I wonder how much a replacement blade would cost? There’s no way you’d find an aftermarket blade that long. The lady remarked “probably $700”. We three then had a laugh…

I poked around online for a reservation tracker, and at least per the one I found, we may not have made one “within the first hour” like I originally thought. We are roughly within the first 130k, maybe 125k, somewhere there…

What I noticed is that early models of any technology are terribly expensive but this soon moderates as 'copy cats' make less expensive knock-offs. It happened with IBM mainframes, later VAX/VMS, down to PCs/Macintosh.

My habit has been to buy used or discontinued products when the latest 'hotness' comes out.

High trim quadcab trucks are already minivans for people who care what the neighbors think, so why not?

Having retired in winter snow country - we get a fair share of slushy / snowy / ice covered winters. The picture below represents how ubiquitous corrosion becomes when they're using Rock salt, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, sand, gravel on roads to prevent folks from ending up in a ditch or worse.

    Screenshot_2023-12-10-07-23-58-56_680d03679600f7af0b4c700c6b270fe7.jpg

Maybe some folks are either too poor or less hypervigilant. We pay a monthly fee during the winter - just so we can use affordably the local automatic car wash that gets this stuff off of the steel/oainted body - as well as the undercarriage. Sometimes we'll end up going three times a week turning on how the storm fronts hit the area. It dawned on me the cool thing about a stainless body is your car won't end up looking like the above. Between that & a nice thick layer of undercoating on the belly of the truck -owners should be good to go.
    ;)

My first sighting of a DeLorean was up in Anchorage, AK, which happened to be on sale. (Boy did I want to buy it, but I was really young and had no idea how to get it back down to California). I noticed no apparent rust on the exterior, although the interior looked like it needed (a lot of) work.

Is it surgical stainless steel? (My household is full of medical professionals or an aspiring medical professional, sans me). Anyways they sledge hammered it on the reveal show…

That wiper has got to be at least 3 ft / 36 inches long. At least it looks like an aero spoiler is built into the blade to keep it down. On our Gen 2 CTS-V there are aero blades attached to the frame of the blade. (Tesla may want to add that if more downforce is necessary)!

I know my wife made the initial reservation with the understanding the deposit is fully refundable. So I asked her if she was willing to fork over the $80k she initially selected and take what that would get, which aligns with personal preference of the one with longest range. (Just so happens I am the one who charges our EQB lease the most). She’s not sure and wants to see the inside first, or at least have her coworker’s husband (Tesla employee) try to check the interior out and report.

One of her concerns is the idea of buying a Tesla, yet not checking out/inspecting what you buy first. (She reminded me of that concern when I asked about The Truck). The Cybertruck is still cordoned off and one is not able to check out the interior…

If she knows she won’t, I told her she should grab one of the specials (on the Y or 3) before year end, to potentially qualify for the $7500 tax credit.

My son has been quiet through this recently. He just wants one now I guess. He loved the FSD, even though he admits he had to fight the steering wheel at times. FSD seems to be optional to all current models as a subscription (IIRC $199.99/mo, that could be subject to increase), or the fixed $12k…

They’d have to at least bring pricing down to the current minivan pricing (I would think), and add back the initially promised 6th seat. (Seats six comfortably was on the Cybertruck pages until very recently)…

    Based on Sandy Munro videos:
    • 2014 BMW i3-REx - bought without ever being in one. User forums told me how to get it coded so flew to Charlotte NC to pick it up. Two blocks from seller, stop, coded, and drove home. LOVED IT.
    • 2019 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus - again, bought with not even kicking the tires. Drove it home with wife and still LOVE IT. BTW, FSD download two days ago and much improved.

You had to “code” the i3? What so ever for???

I heard you do get to do an inspection prior to final signing, something like that. My wife was hoping her friend’s/coworker’s husband could peek into the interior and report. The Cybertruck on display was still cordoned off. I was hoping one could check out the interior the day I took pics. (That was actually my second visit but I didn’t take many pictures the first time)…
