Brake Booster Malfunction

The class action was on inverters which is still available. The brake booster “customer service program” has expired for most due to its 10 year/150k limit. Used parts are not recommended for safety and to avoid wrong or bad parts. While the part(s) can be bought for less online from Toyota dealers, the labor is still significant and special calibrations and bleeding techniques are needed. Some independent hybrid shops can save a little if close enough.

 

WHY would you think that your car is not wrth $8000?
It's paid for isn't it? What would you be paying if you had a car payment?
And for how long?
You should shop around and see if you can find some place that will cost less to repair it.

 

You could, in theory, still get $8,000 per Kbb.com even if you have the abs issue.There is a way to do the repair without the costs you’ve been quoted but you gotta find the right Independent mechanic.

 

I got a Costco Auto discount coupon and saved me $500. Total cost ended up $2500. Then, 20 miles after I got my car back, my TPMS warning light did the blinking AND hot air only was coming out of my air conditioner. I took it back to the dealer and they said the problems could not be related to the repair. I asked them to double check out the warning light issue and AC and not charge me the $195 diagnostic fee. He said he'd waive it and got back to me saying I need to replace at least one sensor to get the light off and that sensor problems don't happen when doing the master cylinder/ booster repair. But, conceded that the AC needed to be rebooted due to being unhooked during the repair and that was not done. (Details something like that, anyway justified the waiving of diagnostics, I guess). So dealer wants $410 to replace one sensor to turn off the light. Says I should get all four replaced. I said no thanks and will pick up my car without more repairs there. Costco down the street will replace one sensor for $65. Why did I get such a lemon 2010, gen 3, less than 60K miles, solar/nav., custom real leather seats...... ugh.

 

The ac compressor and brake booster are on opposite sides of the engine bay. I guess the lines get close once they reach the fire wall but that scenario sounds like bs.

 

As you note, costco charges $60-$65 for installing one TPMs sensor. Most tire shops like Discount Tire will also do it for less than $100.

Glad they fixed the AC. My hunch is they disconnected a connector and did not reinstall.

 

Hey man what ended up happening with this ? I bought parts online and installed them myself took to dealer to program and they told me parts won't work because I needed the updated ones.

Brake master cylinder 47050-47140
Pump brake 47070-47060

 

That’s the right brake master cylinder. I don’t know about the pump. I got used one.

 

Do you have access to techstream ? They’re just telling you that because you installed the parts. No one likes working after someone else.

Wow, that price is a bargain ! I got a recent quote at 2200 dollars for the parts alone [booster pump and master cylinder] before tax ! Last month I replaced the booster pump myself, which includes the accumulator, as an assembly. Cost from Amazon was $450 total.
