ABS: C0210, C1391 and Power Train: P0A80

    Out driving my 2010 with 147K miles and the ABS, Traction Control, and Brake lights all came on all of a sudden. It's been raining all day here today (not sure if that matters)

    I took it to AutoZone. They ran a diagnostic and these codes came up:
    P0A80--Replace Hybrid Battery Pack ?!
    C0210--Read Speed Sensor RH Circuit
    C1391--Abnormal Lead of ACC Press

    Has anyone else got this exact triad of codes? If so, how did you fix it and how much did it cost?
    Do I really need to replace my Hybrid Battery Pack? If highly likely, what can I expect to pay for parts and labor?!?

    i would focus on the battery health, and then see if any other codes come back after it is replaced

    Ugh...It sounds like I'll need to replace the Hybrid Battery Pack? Any recommendations on where I should have it done...? Dealer? Any chance it could just be the 12V that needs to be replaced?

    you can get the 12v load tested at auto zone for free. if it passes, take it to a dealer, or a shop that has toyota tech stream diagnostic software.
    if it is the hybrid battery, oem is best if you intend on keeping it long term, but there are rebuilders that do various quality jobs that may or may not last, if you're trying to eak out a few years.

    Those three codes are about different things, so it's not as if they make a "triad" that is telling you about some specific single problem.

    The P0A80 does mean that the car has judged the traction battery to be at end of life.

    The C1391 (abnormal leak, not lead, of accumulator pressure) can crop up in an older car too, with a brake system component under the hood wearing out. If you are making a fix-or-replace decision about the car, you should probably take both that and the battery code into account.

    The rear (not read) speed sensor circuit, by comparison, can turn out to be a simple wiring issue or something pretty cheap to repair.

    You mentioned the ABS, trac, and brake lights coming on, but you didn't mention the triangle light. Did that come on too? i would be surprised at seeing a P0A80 without that light, maybe surprised enough to want somebody else to read the codes and double-check.

    The triangle light did not come on. And, if it does turn out that I need to replace the hybrid battery, I'm going to have to decide if it's worth replacing or not. The car is in ok shape, a few door dings and curb scratches on the bumpers. The front and rear brakes were replaced this year. It burns oil. I have to put a quart of oil every 1500 or so. Tires avg around 6/32 of tread left.

    I'm in Louisville, KY so not really exposed to salt or snow in 13 years compared to NE or Midwest.

    If the triangle light isn't on, there's something hinky about AutoZone seeing a P0A80. I would try to get somebody else with a better scan tool to check again.

    Talked to a local Toyota Dealership, and a couple of local mechanics. The dealership would charge me $3200 for this fix. They have to keep the car for a week while the part is on order and then take two days to fix. One local mechanic is too busy and can't get me in until Nov. 21. Either way, I may need to rent a car to get me around. Enterprise is $400/wk. Ugh! I hate my life right now.

    The traction battery costs at least $1957. The brake booster assembly costs at least $557. Those being the big-ticket items, your dealer is charging you less than $686 for labor (brake fluid isn't free).

    I have very little knowledge of how much dealerships charge for their time, or what the shop time is for those two jobs, but that labor charge seems a bit low (or reasonable) if they are selling both the battery and brake booster at cut-throat prices. The other explanation for a quote of $3200 is that they are only going to be fixing one of your issues, and it might be wise to double check with them exactly what they're going to be doing.

    The deed and damage are done! Took the car to the local stealership, and they replaced the brake booster and actuator. The damage was $3300 for Parts and Labor. Plus, I had to rent a car for three days while they fixed it and that was $160. I tried to take it to my regular independent shop, where I get all my work done, but they couldn't do it. Painful to shell out all that money. Any money saved in the last ten years of ownership is now gone. I know stuff happens and breaks, and I missed the warranty deadline by 3 years, but still....Thanks for letting me vent!
