Hi. I recently had 4 new tires installed on my car. They aligned and balanced the tires as well. Since then I have noticed the LTA or steering assist doesn’t take control or jerk the wheel as it used to just a few days ago. When I called up the shop they said there’s nothing they do while installing tires that would affect the steering assist as it’s a completely different system. As I understand it, there’s a camera behind the Toyota emblem on the front of the car and another one located near the rear view mirror stock.

I just drove from Philadelphia to NJ and there was a little over cast. However, at times when I intentionally let the car slip to the right it completely went over the dotted line with no warning or pull back and there was no clouds or overcast. Does anyone know if this can be fixed by resetting the steering assist in the car itself or is this a more serious problem I need certified Toyota mechanics to look at?

They are correct, nothing they do has any impact on you lane assistance. What happens when you try and set the lane assistance? Did you look into you settings menu? On the Camry there is a way to turn it off. One way is to press and hold the lane assistance button for like 5 or 10 seconds so maybe they did that pulling it in.

    Thanks for the reply!
Nothing really. I don’t feel it taking hold of the car like it usually does. I could let it drift and it would go over into the lane to the right or the left which was not possible a day ago.

Are you saying there’s a main switch to turn off all of the assist features? I will look into the settings menu and see if there’s a way to turn it on or off. However, I’m pretty sure that I know how to do that because my girlfriend has the Corolla and I’ve had lots of practice with turning it off and on in both of our cars.

On the Camry there are two ways to turn it off. One is in the settings menu. The other is to simply hold the lane assist button on the steering wheel down for a few seconds. It's entirely possible this was done by accident when getting the tires changed.. I haven't really had the Prius long enough to be able to tell you without trying it.

I think I have it turned on. I uploaded 2 photos. One to indicate what my steering wheel looks like, with a directional keypad that I can use to scroll through the messages on the display and the other to show you what the display looks like. Also the display currently shows that LTA is on. Are you saying that by holding the LTA button down for a few seconds it will give me perhaps another option?

I'm saying on the Camry if you hold the button down on the steering wheel it deactivates the system. This car does not do that as I just found out. The button does turn the system on and off. You can see it toggle on the dash when you hit the button on the stee wheel.

Again very easy to hit the button turning the wheel or something..

Thanks for the clarification and your help in this matter. I’m happy to say after some research I found thread on this forum that fixed the issue. I’ll paste the link below however, essentially I had all of the features on at once Lane Trace Assist, Steering Assist and Lane Sway. So apparently, if you want the car to assist in steering the car having lane assist and steering assist is fine but you can’t have Lane Sway on too. ‍♂️

As mentioned here’s the link: Lane Tracing Assist in Safety Sense 2.0 | PriusChat

The lack of steering assist was puzzling me too. After reading this thread, I tried just shutting off the sway alarm function and steering assist started to work.....mystery solved! Bravo for drawing this little detail out of the darkness!

There is no camera behind the emblem but a radar, which is used for the traffic aware cruise control. Beside the rear camera used to view will backing up, there is only one other camera and like you said, it's near the rear view mirror. That's the one responsible for the lane assist.
