Just go to the Dr.Prius app website. There are reviews of OBD2 bluetooth adapters that work with the app.

If you have an android phone or tablet, look at the blue colored Veepeak that is $14 on Amazon.

In the best of all possible worlds, the reviews at the Dr. Prius site will even include one for the product jmyntrn sells.

 

I don't sell OBD2 products and that link on the Dr Prius site is sooo old, some of those devices you can't get anymore.
I think it was written a few years ago as the device I recommend that shows enhanced diagnostics and has outperformed every device I've used in the comparison, I believe he had issues with it. Everyone to purchased tells me they are glad they did!

 

The OP wants to use the Dr.Prius app to disable the constant reverse beeping and/or to disable the seat belt beeping. He needs an OBD2 bluetooth adapter that works with the app. I recommend a $14 adapter, and you recommend a $140 abdapter. Both on them will work with the app and do what the OP wants to do. Which adapter is the better value for the purpose that he wants to use it for?

This is why so many Prius owners post and say "My OBD2 Device says Code XYZ but I can't figure out what's wrong with my Prius". As it turns out the recommendation to buy a cheap dongle left them with a false sense of hope the dongle you recommended would help them in their time of need.... when you made them spend the $14 plus any additional app fees to disable the beep when in the grand scheme they wasted money when they should've bought what can properly communicate with their vehicle.

OP tried 9-10 of what I'll assume are $14 adapters, in the end, had OP spent the $140 they would had what they needed all along... and spent less than 9-10 devices cost OP.

An OBD2 Device that can read and disable beeps on all if not most vehicles and they never have to pay a membership or app fee!! Plus it comes with a no-cost computer diagnostics software as well! That is what you should recommend as the necessity outweighs the money left your wallet.

Buy what's needed the first time, and you'll save yourself some headaches and possibly some money! buy quality, everyone looking for "cheap" versus "what's needed and quality!" has had them up a creek without a paddle and a useless $14 OBD2 device!

 

I understand not wanting to spend a lot of money on something you won't be using often.
But sometimes, you just need to do it. Junk is Junk! WHY would you trust it?

I use this Panlong with Dr. prius, Torque Pro, Hybrid Assistant on my 2018 Aqua. Seems to work well.

If you were to see the connection details it would let you see the difference regarding the possible lost data packets that come from using a device whose inner bus speeds can barely keep up with the amount of data generated by a Prius.

Even the placement of the device connected to them plays a role in connection speed/strengths. Not to say that those apps aren't receiving the data and not reporting as accurately but you cant rule that out.

Can you leave the Panlong device plugged in all the time, or will it run the 12v battery down? I'm really new at this. I had an issue this week with my new-to-me high miler Prius (238k on it at purchase). I accidentally left an interior cabin light on for 2 days. When I tried to start the car, I got many many error codes, then the car died for good and could not be revived. I tried to scan it, first using Dr Prius and then using car scanner. No codes resulted. If you have to have the car running or in accessory mode, I could not do either once it died for good. I did run the scan before it was totally dead. I was in a total panic because I'd only had the car for two weeks and it was "deader than a hammer" in my driveway, as we say in the South. We tested the battery and it was totally dead. Twenty-four hours on a charger did no good. It was a Toyota battery new in 2018 with an 84-month warranty, but I could not do anything about that (no dealer nearby and I was not the original purchaser), so I went to Napa and bought a new battery for $235. Hubby connected the new battery and voila, the car is good as new. But I was a total nervous wreck for 24 hours, thinking the car was toast and that it had BETRAYED ME. My lesson to everyone, is that when your car goes haywire, check the battery first. Hubby is not crazy about my Prius purchase; he thinks the cars are complicated and we live in a rural area and no mechanics or specialists are around. I plan to waylay other Prius owners in my town when I see them on the road, to see where they take their cars for service. I plan to do a transmission drain-and-fill but I'm already being discouraged by my spousal unit, who says that the independent mechanics won't want to do it because "filling it is too hard since it's underneath the car." P.S. You should have seen both of us crawling into the back of the car to find the hatch release. Funniest Home Videos show would have enjoyed it.

 

there is no logical reason to use a panlong or veepak. this video tells you why.

Once I get some time, I plan on making a VIM to access the OBD2 through Bluetooth so we can use Techstream wirelessly. The new mongoose has BT capabilities and so does the latest Techsream! FINALLY!!!
I also figure in theory, access speeds to Techstream would be really fast particularly since I know there is a huge difference in the data transmission speed between say a minivci and an openport 2.0, and the vcx nano and the mongoose (which I say when I do the Bluetooth VIM, see if I can figure out how to get a WIFI/Wireless VIM made as well.)

ha! you know, that last part, out of all the vehicle owners with a Toyota who use Techstream, I cant figure out why no one else has had that thought?

 

priusapp.com is the initital step to sending the app author your question about the panlong adapter, since he (Jack) probably has the most experience with the panlong since it's the adapter he used while building the DrPrius app and could possibly still use now, many years later. I have an ELM327 mini adapter which is similar to the panlong and I believe my mini doesn't use much if any electricity when the Prius is turned off. But I did have to get a new 12 volt battery for our 2017 prius this summer, so I can't say 100% my mini doesn't use any juice while the prius is turned off.

There are new (more expensive adapters) that advertise an auto off switch and some also have power LED''s to let you know when they are drawing power from the ODB11 port.
