Why are you getting nothing completely when you're start button is depressed suppose you don't touch the brake and you push the button once and then again making it twice does your display light up you're not ready but the car is in real accessory mode lit up? And if you're not getting any start sounds to me like you clearly need to look at your battery. Course now you're going to tell me all the lights work the headlights the tail lights and everything comes on you just have no start okay I am or and when we say no start we meaning no ready and not going into gear starting really here is not relevant I guess we're saying power up the car and making ready??. I am sure on this site somebody will give you a link to a very lengthy section of the Toyota manual for this car that will talk a lot about that I have personally not read it but I'm sure it must exist because Toyota would have known this was going to be an issue for sure they seem to have thought of a lot of things when they built this car I'm sure there's a lengthy troubleshooting section that will go through a bunch of steps that you have to pay attention to what you're doing make notes while you're going through the routines and Wella.

Nothing at all when i press the round Start button...foot on brake or not - zip...zilch...
Its not the fuses...not the 12v battery (solid 13.1 volts, and tests exceeding the CCA rating)...not the 230v traction battery - brand new.

So im going to have it towed to a place that knows their shit, and have em follow this:

The remote works the red car or the red key flashes on the display when you have the remote out of the slot maybe in your pocket whatever no matter if the SKS is on or not whether the button is pushed under the steering wheel shouldn't make any difference at this point but you see the key is active in the display the remote unlocks locks the doors sets off the panic button all that sort of thing correct? I guess it could be the immobilizer absolutely it's possible.

Actually, i think the SKS button may be turned off under the steering wheel - because the key light flashes on the dash until i instert the fob....then the let light goes offf...and the key-inserted "beeping" starts.
-- At this point, when you press the round Start-button, the IGN relays should click on, the LED on the start button should light orange or green, and the dash/mfd display should come on.....but none of that is happening.

Verify that the connectors at the 12V battery in the back are tight, that there is a very low resistance path from the negative post to clean metal on the body, and that there is 12V at the jump post in the fuse box under the hood.

There is a huge fuse right on the battery. If that has blown nothing will work.

I suppose the start button might have gone bad, or the connector to it is not on.

Any signs of life at all? Will the dome light come on if set to "on"?

All connectors at battery have been cleaned, shiny and torqued to spec.

all fuses good, including the long fusible buss bar.

    Interior light works

just “nothing” when you press round button… …exactly like it’s a bad button!
    Checking that next!

If you're pressing the brake pedal right. The relays don't light up unless you push the brake pedal right or you push the button twice with no touching the brake.?.

Is a second key fob available? I suppose that it's possible that the RFID inside broke, not sure how, maybe a pass through the washing machine or being dropped.

This is for a Gen 3, but something similar must be possible on a Gen 2

    both fobs:

key-warning light stops flashing when fob inserted
    key-recognition "beeping" sound begins

nothing happens when Start button depressed.

So, you have the Autel. Did you create an account? Link - activate the VCI (OBD dongle)? Choose and download the Toyota and generic OBD2 "modules" for the app?

Read the entire scantool review thread. I had some quirks that I had to deal with when first setting the tool up. I had to "pair" the VCI on my phone's bluetooth settings, and then I couldn't use the "auto VIN detect" function. I had to select the Toyota module, then select the "area" (16 pin North America). Since your car won't power up you will have to choose to manually enter year, model, SKS options, etc (VIN read won't work at all).

Once you go through all that then you can cycle the hazard flashers and brake pedal a few times while trying to connect - in theory you should be able to communicate with a few ecu's. Since the car recognizes the key fob in the slot, the secondary data network (BEAN bus) is working. So the power source ecu should be online as well.

Do you have another car that you can test the tool on? Another Toyota would be good, but generic OBD2 should work on any car 1996 or newer.

Guy - THANKS! Ive been kinda floundering with conflicting expectations - Tech Support at Autel and well as their manual both said "nope: if the car doesnt power ON....it will not work."....and when I tried (what i think was the ) read ODB option under Diagnostics, it took 3 minutes as a communicating progress bar filled....from 20 to 40 to 80 and 100% COMPLETED....Only to have it say "Could not communicate - make sure car power in ON."

And no - as there were no use-instructions in the AUTEL package, I had no way of knowing about the steps you mention. It did light up green when plugged in...and I did pair it successfully in bluetooth to my iphone...but i didnt see anything about having to enter info, etc - nor flasher/brake setps.
I tried leaving my contact with you on a couple threads, but when I didnt hear back, I just kind of resigned myself that Im out of my depth!%...

Thats where i said "uncle"...and made an appt to have it towed (literally%)150 miles to the closest highly rated indie-Prius guy this coming week!

No, I understand, it's been a crazy week. That and trying to learn how to use a new tool on a broken car can be really tough.

Since you have 12v at the jump point, now check the fusible link below it.

    Does the Dome light work?

Link is good....all fuses good...all batteries fresh and strong....all relays clean....dome light works...open-door dash led works...key flashing led works as it should...key light goes out and key-in beeping when fob inserted a.s it should

just no start/no IGN relay-click/no amber or green leds on button when START button pressed....
.....just keeps beeping, but nothing happens.....regardless of length of press, foot on brake or off brake.
