I agree thread drift is annoying, especially for a new member who is trying to get their problems solved so I would agree that members should minimise the tangents or at least get it done in a few posts then come back on topic.

But also, PC is different from other forums - we're not just a bunch of strangers online. We've evolved into a community where off topic discussions and banter occur organically. I've seen other forums devolve into arguments because neither sides wants to give up. Here, sure there are strong discussions but I haven't had the need to ban anyone or close threads in a LONG time. We've come to respect one another and enjoy the forum regardless of background, opinions or lifestyle.

Direct Message. An evolution of PM due to social media using DM as the term for "directly messaging the user" rather than posting publicly (e.g. Twitter/X)

Our forum software's default behavior when you 'reply' is to create a
...
element for the immediate words of the poster you are replying to, and nothing for any earlier quotations that were in that post. You have to do more work on your own if you want those included.

As a new member, you probably will pretty quickly learn things like that about how the forum works (even down to, specifically, how the forum software does and doesn't do things).

While you are getting accustomed to those things, you might go a little easier on the assumptions about what other people might or might not have intended.

I'm very well aware how the quotes work, literally exactly like most other forums, since most use the same basic coding. I included everything I wanted to in the post, and responded to who I was talking to, but ty anyways. The person I was responding to knows exactly what i was referring to.

I make no assumptions about what others intended or didn't intend but again ty anyways. I received the message loud and clear. The amount of time I have been on this forum and my comprehension of the written word are not mutually exclusive. Since you didn't write those words you have no idea of the intent so we are left with things at face value and previous interactions.
