    Can I just say it’s much easier buying tires for a car you are keeping! After reading some reviews I’m just not up to buying super cheap tires despite my low budget. I found out today that the Yokohama rebate is only for a few select tires and NOT for the Avid Ascend LX. Plus warranty doesn’t carry over. All the rebates this season seem to be for a limited selection of tires.

    Delta solar 4xs at $65 per tire?
    Sumitoma HTR Enhance LX2 $80?

    I know that Walmart Dextero tire was highly recommended but it’s out of stock and some of the reviews really scared me.

    Ironic that I might end up with the noisy Toyo Extensa A/Sll that were on the 2023 Prius I test drove. They are slightly cheaper than the Yokohamas. Maybe it’s a good idea so I can get used to the noise. : } Just grateful I don’t have a flat.

    Costco I know doesn’t warranty, rotate, or fix tires to second owners, suspect others don’t either. You get nothing as a second owner of their tires. Its a tough one. Maybe move the worst front one to the back so it wears less. People know tires wear out. Newer tires, I think many buyers see it as essentially free. But you can offer half off the cost of cheap new tires cost at the final negotiation, and probably they absorb it, but who knows, people are all different. With brand new tires you may have someone coming back complaining and asking you to help warranty them or something too.
    An advantage of your car is the tires are one of the least costly sizes, a selling point.

    If you put new tires on a car you just don’t tell the buyer.

    it’s up to them if they keep or replace, if you don’t tell they are new they won’t be coming back for warranty

    Get used tires with some good tread or enough to get you by. Nothing wrong with used tires, just inspect them for dry rot, plugs etc.
    I'm in southern California and used tires are plentiful at the smaller tire shops. Some people get new rims/tires and leave their stock parts at the shop or change tires even when the old set has good tread left.

    I’m not going to worry about someone coming back for a warranty because the state I live in requires used cars by individuals to be sold as is. I will certainly tell them about the new tires and the cost because that would matter to me if I was negotiating the price of a used car. I think it really depends on the buyer. A car with new tires, new brakes etc sells for more than a car that needs these things replaced. Obviously that’s partly why a dealer sells an older used car at a premium. When I bought my 2009 for $10k back in 2015 it had good new tires and headlights replaced. It also came with a 90 day warranty which helped. : }

    I tried looking for used but haven’t tried very hard. I’ll check one last place tomorrow.

    Personally I would rather buy a used car with tires that are not brand spanking new. That way I can see if there is a problem with how the tires wear. Brand new tires are a red flag for me, not quite up there with a steam cleaned engine, but close.

    This is the result of a bad experience with a bought used car that came with new tires and turned out to have uneven wear on one side. It drove me crazy, the car would start pulling to one side, and it moved with the tire. Turned out that the right rear would cause a bad wear pattern to set in, and when rotated to the front, it would pull. Meanwhile the previously good tire was being screwed up in that position. A suspension shop finally resolved it by installing a crash bolt in the rear suspension. I say finally because suspension checks at two different tire stores had not previously noted a problem. There was no history of collision damage back there, and nothing else in the vicinity of that wheel was damaged or appeared to have been replaced. The previous owner may have hit a curb with that wheel.

    Thanks. I agree. That’s partly why I want new tires put on as soon as possible so there will be some wear on them before it gets sold. I can’t hold off until December on the current tires.

    My headlight bulb needs replacing too. I was initially stalling in case I was just trading it in. I wouldn’t want to buy a car with a headlight out. I would fear it might be the mechanism rather than the bulb so I’m getting that taken care of too. Bad timing all around but it will be a wash in the end.
