If you acquired a car that was in perfect condition a generation two '08 literally not a scratch on it It needs the brakes fixed meaning the actuator the $1,400 part other than that the car drives perfectly still has 240,000 mi on it and no issues I'll probably put front wheel bearings on it You can tell it's close to time. Only issue with the car is there's no title and probably no way to get a title. I've talked to the DMV blah blah blah there is no legal workaround at all there used to be 20 years ago because I've done it now they've killed it. I'm not going to junk the car I just put the tag from my other Prius on this one when I want to drive it and drive it I've been stopped in it nothing's been said about it nobody checks anything because it's just an old piece of crap Toyota to most police It's on my insurance I just can't title the register it.?

The VIN number's on my insurance My insurance really doesn't care about registration status and DMV status provided the car's not stolen so on and so forth I can get an indemnity bond on the vehicle but it doesn't matter to the state It says nothing to do with much of insurance USAA has told me they don't really care if you will The car has a VIN number it's not stolen there's no 29s no warrants and nobody wants it nobody's coming forth to say this is my car it's been missing an action I'm here to claim it. Once a car is turned to junk by the owner the only person that can undo that is the owner If they're dead or no longer around then? It's just a dead vehicle that should be sliced up parted out whatever because Big brother says so If I get in an accident with the car USAA will pay out just like they do with all the other cars on my insurance which by the way I haven't had a claim in 25 years. So I'd imagine they'd pay out the people I damaged right? For the 30 years that I was driving with no license My insurance with USAA was some of the lowest in the country as far as the rates go they didn't care that I didn't have a license they just knew I drive very good and don't have any claims so I'm a asset not a liability in the insurance world correct?

check your state laws, driving a car that is not registered will get you hefty fines and court summons. If the registration is long enough it can be added as points to your driving record (increasing your insurance) Worst is they can impound the car but it's junk anyway so who cares. Depends on the officer who pulled you over, some let it slide but some don't and if they found out that you're swapping plates you can be in jail for perjury/falsification..

you could file a lengthy "abandoned property" to have it titled or if you know a mechanic get a mechanic's lien and just pay him to make him happy..

people on marketplace are selling car that says "lost title" which is a complete LIE! there's no such thing as lost title because you could file a duplicate if you're the owner. Usually the seller is just trying to hide that it was stolen, signed the title but won't register (pay taxes), bought it with a bad title (signed already), was salvaged, bought it from somebody with just a bill of sale.. it's even illegal to sell without a title unless you say it's for parts only..

No actually many of them wind up in tow lots and the owner personal owner of the vehicle has junked it and so then it becomes marked as junk and the only person in many states who can unjunk the vehicle is the person who actually junked it literally they have to go back to the DMV pay $60 blah blah blah whatever the deal is and that's that so. I know a lot of people that own these tow lots. They get these cars and go to advertising them on Facebook as parts only and that's just fine so everybody comes and buys the MFD and you know a couple things here and there and then they're left with what's left of the car. Sometimes I find the cars before they've even been inventory this particular one I'm talking about still had the person's license tag on it so on and so forth It looks like the car was fingerprinted and the car was stolen by the husband or something along those lines or a cousin a family member and they took it down to the store bought some cigarettes and alcohol and then left the car there and didn't drive it back and the family member at the house reported it stolen because they didn't authorize whatever you see how it turns into a pile of poop very quickly. And so there you go now this toe lot has this mint condition 08 Prius without a scratch on it except for a couple of piles of fingerprint powder lasted across one side of the car where you know they fingerprinted it I guess. And there it sits get in it start right up drive it around the lot until the guy man you need to keep the car together what do you want for it and off I went . Fines here where I live. If you can prove financial responsibility that's 90% of your issue with there being no 29s or no warrants or nothing on the vehicle nobody wants it no cops are looking for it any of that then you're pretty much all set You literally can walk out of the court with the $20 fine and cost of court of course but it takes a lot to get there even in an accident most people aren't recording all this information they're picking up the cars off the road and hauling them off and people are turning over their information I'm driving 4 09 Priuses whoops I got the wrong tag on one of the cars oh boy I'm surely going to be strung up and electrocuted for that I'm sure nope not at all..

cops can't but a personal injury lawyer can gut your life savings if you're involved in an accident without the proper tags/registration, call it reckless for something..

You're twisting words You have to have financial responsibility for what you have on the road that pretty much in a judge's eye it's 9/10 of the law of what we're discussing here personal injury has nothing to do with it is still just an old piece of crap car than one that's in very good shape to be honest about it near perfect condition so the car has nothing to do with it The person doing the driving may have more at play than anything to do with the vehicle but they can try You're right try I'm not sure what the basis would be because the car isn't registered properly that means it's more dangerous to my client yeah I'm sure of it. But people will try anything these days that is a fact they will stretch anything right into pure dog poop.

If you can get a junked title, you can convert it to a salvaged rebuilt title with a safety inspection.

Official NCDMV: Salvaged and Abandoned Vehicle Titles

It was in the news Vermont used to allow you to title untitled out of state cars, and then you could transfer the Vermont title but they closed that loop hole this year.

lol, you don't understand what you're doing and don't understand some basic law, just because you're not caught in a situation red-handed you think it's ok. First of all most insurance companies don't allow insuring cars to non-owners but there are few companies that do provide that. When you insure a car there's a question that say's do you "Own, Lease, Finance, etc.. the car?" Own means having a title for it with your name. So make sure that your insurance company knows of your ownership situation and if they are ok with out because you're assuming that they are. To sum up you don't legally own the car since you don't have the title under your name. What Is Non-Owner Car Insurance And Who Needs It? – Forbes Advisor

On the eye of the judge swapping plates is guilty of falsification and yes you have to prove that you made a mistake on putting it on another car that you don't own, or make alibi that somebody made a prank on your license plate...

I have a friend who got involved in a minor fender bender long time ago, the other party made a lot of medical claims and loss of work compensation for the incident. He probably got a good lawyer.. That's the reason why our insurance premium are high because of these frivolous claims.

it's not actually titling, it's more about registering the car legally.. still out of state.

The inspector came out here and looked it too One of them I can get an indemnity bond have a title and record time in a registration no problem perfect I'm still working on that car no problem it's almost in as good a condition as the green one The green one was junked by the owner in Fuquay-Varina He's the only one that can unjunk it I haven't gone to talk to him yet this was a DMV inspector from the license and theft division named Jody and he told me that there is nothing he can do I can't even get a salvage title for the vehicle because the owner junked it or that's what it looks like He says he can't tell whether the insurance company junked it or the owner did He said it's very indescript in the reports which he finds extremely odd something's definitely wrong but it's something he can't fix.

You don't know the car's history or hold title. Let's assume a worst case scenario: the car was in another state, stolen and used in a bank heist which went wrong and people were killed, then dumped in your state without plates or paperwork. (Yes, a silly example, who is going to use a Gen 2 Prius as a getaway car?) It ends up in an impound lot where you found it. Do you want to assume the risk of being stopped by the police while driving an out of state stolen car, with ties to a murder, and with illegal plates on it?

    Punch the VIN in here:

    Home | VehicleHistory

and see what comes up. If the car is salvage then with enough work you can probably at least register it, but perhaps not insure it.

It came from 45 minutes away there are no 29s on the vehicle no warrants wasn't involved in anything It was involved in a family dispute is how it got of taken away from whoever like a cousin stole it from an uncle they all lived in the same house at the same address I'm actually going over there tomorrow to see if the kid who owned the car Quentin privette I will give him $300 to unjunk the car and tell him how to do it All he can do is say no. Which is fine because I'm happy leaving it just like it is actually like I say it's insured and good to go.

It's on my insurance right now because it's sitting in my driveway so I added it just because. My insurance doesn't care if it's registered or anything they just need a VIN number and it's just basic insurance no collision nothing like that.

A friend of mine once told me "you just can't make this shit up!". That's exactly what's going through my mind right now.

Tom, didn't you recently state you own more Gen 2s than you know what to do with? Seems like everyone you talk about is in great shape..like new. Why in the world would you even worry about driving this car and exposing yourself to the possible financial devastation that could occur if something stupid happens? Insurance or no insurance, an unregistered car. on the road illegally, is going to get the driver FKD. Why risk it? Are you not committing a crime by driving that car on public roads? Will your insurance truly pay a claim? I wouldn't risk my financial heath on it.....
