HV Battery to ECU wiring diagram? Installing one PIP 1.1kWh module in a Gen 2.

    I'm looking for more details on what each of the wires is for and have only found these two diagrams. Is there another somewhere I haven't found yet? The plan, make a plug-and-play connector for easy installation of a lithium PIP 1.1kWh battery module.

    What more detail are you looking for? The VBBs and GBB are the voltage sensing, FCTL1, SI, and VM are cooling fan control and feedback just as the diagram shows, CANH and CANL are the CAN bus, and so on as labeled.

    literally was looking for exactly what you described. :)

    I didn't know what they were for and now need to map the wires from the Gen 2 ECU components through and to the harness on the PIP battery module. The CAN I was aware of them, but the others had no clue what they were for. Any additional facts you can share or gotchas I need to ensure are in place are much appreciated!

    yep! the cost difference between one module versus a complete nimh Gen 2 replacement would be a huge win for Gen 2 owners if the way I see this working actually working!

    So this would use the Gen2 battery ecu and replacement Li-ion cells (like nexcell project lithium?)

    Yep! Just using the PIP module and cell harness. I'm hoping my connector guy gets back to me today and says he has males/female connectors like the ones between modules/ecu on the Gen 2 and 3 as now, I have mapped the wires on the two different vehicles to each other. So in the interim, I'm scouring ebay and sending out a note to the shops I know to see if they have any lying around that I can cut up and re-wire so I can turn the gen 2 on and see what techstream says.

    The Gen2 battery ecu is designed for Ni-mh batteries and monitors block voltages. I expect most Li-ion batteries to have some type of balancing and protection circuits (Battery Management System).

    Project Lithium designed their battery modules with a passive balancing circuit (but no additional protection).

    IDK much about the PIP design, and was curious if there was anything "inside" the battery module beyond cells and temperature sensors, (did Toyota put all BMS functions into the battery ecu)? If so, how would that affect using the PIP battery in a Gen2?

    I think there is a lot of mis information out there about all of this stuff... so ill say this.. ill know in a few days if my theory is right but based on deep discussions with someone who swapped lithum cells on a DIY route in his Gen 2...and what I know about how the computers adjust themselves... this should be a lot easier than youve been lead to beleive.

    And I think that getting it connected will be a piece of cake.

    But then getting it to work as good or better than the original will be next to impossible.

    Blackj seems to believe model specific software does not exist and all that is needed are matching connectors. Meanwhile back on earth, I can’t use a brake booster from the same model and year that was made for a different tire size.

    no, I just know and it's been proven that you can install a lithium battery in a Gen 2... I've yet to see anyone attempt this method. Please share and poke holes in this by providing details on why it won't work. Now... brake booster talk is apples to oranges in this conversation, however... I have been looking through the different ABS components of other Toyo/Lexus vehicles to see where the similarities might exist its just the price of the parts are all in the same range, no real gains from that train of thought...

    I will say, that software limits from ECU's aren't something that applies to me nor a roadblock, I have my ways to modify all that jazz.

    In my head, having the option to use newer technology whether is batteries, motors... rear AWD subframes just needs someone to sit and figure it out like the gent who did the first Gen 4 engine into a Gen 3. Why do you have to be salty and not help the cause by providing information that could possibly be the key to solving something? When it's done and working, I'll be curious to your response then!

    I think this has been brought to your attention before.......maybe more than once by more than one person.......
    yet you choose to ignore it.

    ALL of the onboard systems that use the HV battery are designed with a specific set of parameters to
    use THAT EXACT battery efficiently.

    Putting in a different kind of battery .......with a slightly different peak voltage and current and a different internal resistance
    profile is likely to NOT play well with the rest of the electronics.

    A few others have tried things similar to what you propose and as far as I know NONE have been completely happy with the results.
    Whether it "worked" or not depends on your definition of success.

    isn't the lithiumproject using the oem bms?

    people say that about lithium 12 volts too, but they seem to work fine long term

    for me, the thought is, why assume I have not done the leg work? Why assume I haven't tried to poke holes with others in my theory? I have four PIP modules with solid working cells... If you are saying it wont work having parameters aligned that would be false... sure, I am attempting to see if one module on its own will work and the computers adjust/adapt to whats plugged in... just like the 2.0L motor and the OE non modified ECU works, where people say the ECU this and that and add it won't work... and its proven their words are inaccurate.

    ding ding ding!

    what I find is, that most with words of knowledge don't have hands-on experience, only reciting what they read online... I'd rather know hands-on it doesn't for a fact before I comment that something won't work.. like folks say because I upgraded my PIP brakes there is no way while braking the car can regen energy at a faster rate because that's just not how regen works.. well, I don't know what to say because ive seen it hands-on and now logging data on my Prime before the brake upgrade and will continue to do so after. There is a data field called "energies stored while braking" in the ecu logged data that will clearly show the average in that data field significantly or at least.. increase period after installing upgraded brake parts! Even then, folks will say it's not possible but, if the computer says that's what's happening... maybe what people think they know about the Prius or hybrid technology has been wrong for a lonnnnnng time...

    The other one... youll mess up your prius using a power inverter over 1000W... I have two 2000+W inverters that I can use simultaneously even while charging my PIP.... and have yet to blow an OE fuse...

    Or. lifting a Prus more than 1.5" will cause suspension issues.. nope.. another one I've proved to not be accurate information people post as the god honest truth...

    so from where I am standing, this will be another one I add to the list of what they say isnt possible that I've proven to be false information, and yet... the first thing people say is i am a scammer.. and try to diminish the work ive done. hahahaha thats why I stand tall and am not phased by the attempts to tear me down. I am not what that Johnny eating cupcakes and his passive-aggressive energy tries to paint me out to be. but.. it's the internet and me trying to tell yall my character isn't something I am in the business of doing. so with that...

    If you have information that will help me unlock things with the Prius, please share! It's why I post, not to brag but to inspire folks to think outside the box and to hear the Debbie downers tell me why it won't work, granted id be a fool not to listen and actually use their words in my reverse engineering. so when I call them Debbie downers, it's not to put them down, just a form of expression!
