absolutely! but that doesn't negate my statement. 13 miles of ev covers 90% of my driving requirements
When a Prius plug in has to run on gas it maybe be cheaper on road trips than an ev. I heard they are changing that so electric rates are more in line with localities. That changes the outcome a gas car can be cheaper when you have to pay 40 cents/kwh or something, even more. That was big news actually.
there's no guarantee on electric rates. every individual has to assess their own needs, and weigh the benefitsof each fuel against each other. around here, at 40 cents/kwh, it would be cheaper to drive on gas, but i love electric and am willing to pay the price.
13 miles covers 99% of my daily ev needs. I bought the 2020 Prime May 3, made a 330 mile gas trip plus a few short uses to warm up the engine. Still haven’t bought any gas for either my two vehicles since got Prime. Next week have to buy 6 gals to make a 280 mi. or so trip. Im about on 1/4-3/8 tank from about 3/4 when picked it up, same gas in there. Ouch, have to buy gas.
You aren’t cheap enough. I get charging for free. While I walk the dog. No dog, I would walk myself, which all ends up in the good column. I’m putting in a 240 plug for some unknown reason, haven’t charged at home. It charges fine on 120 anyway. I am not the only one willing to spend hours away from home to save $1. I see $100,000 evs getting their free stuff, seems like even more cheap than I am. Charger hogs is a term coming into use.
we walk everyday, but there haven't been any free chargers around here since whole foods went commercial. but you're right, i am not cheap enough. even mrs b accuses me of being a spendthrift because i won't turn the a/c above 75
Yes, definitely. While road tripping recently, a charging station at a hotel we stopped at charged 60 cents per kwh, AND charged for parking. Gas is way cheaper in that situation.
Oh geez. I'll stick with my 0.0595 per kWh at home as much as I can. I do know one of our favorite spots to visit up in the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park has free charging. Next year we plan to the visit the mighty five in Utah with a side trip to Monument Valley so that will be interesting.
Public charging can cost more, specially the fast DC ones. For most EV owners, it is only a sometime fee vs. paying for gas all the time. The parking fees could just be there to encourage people to move after charging is finished.
How in hell did they only get 48.9 mpg in hybrid mode? I've NEVER gotten that low in my 2018 Prime. I went over a mountain pass yesterday and averaged 60 for the trip.
