2023 LE fwd mpg, what are you getting?

For hyper milers this is of course true but for most people CC is more efficient than driving without it. Because most people are terrible drivers when it comes to economy. Obviously the crowd here is an exception. Most of us bought the car for efficiency and drive accordingly. Now comes the part where I admit that I adore CC, especially adaptive CC. I use it all the freaking time

 

Yeah, it's awesome. I just wish we got more than 10 seconds hands free. Some Hyundai's/KIA's get TWO MINUTES! It's crazy.

 

Weather was nice so I took the G5 onto my twisties track. Had a couple of harsh accelerations and turns. 25 mins of pleasurable driving, mostly in sport mode. The first pic is how much that drive cost me.

The second pic is my total MPGs for the day. I use the trip info history screen to record my daily MPGs adding all my daily trips together. You can see the previous 5 days of trips and about what kind of fuel economy I've been getting.

The final pic is self-explanatory. With a .5 optimistic error, I'm on pace to get 683 miles on this tank. Lots of days that required AC also. You better believe I'm breaking 700 in the fall. Then it's on to 750. 800 seems way out of reach without a dedicated and greatly restrained driving routine. No fun, no twisties, no AC/heat, no short trips - all business. Still don't think I'd hit it.

 

You made a 10.3 mile trip and it was 79% on ev in a non plug in hybrid? So about 2.2 miles on gas? Of course though, it’s all on gas.

I must think you are doing something incredibly different than most of the people on here given you seem to be getting about 10 to 30 mpg better than pretty much everyone else - or am I missing something? Care to share with us mortals?

 

Just driving smart. Staying off highways as much as possible.

Not wasting time accelerating and driving/gliding with the ICE off as much as possible.

Anticipating lights, turns, stops. Recovering as much energy as possible when I have to stop.

Do your best to accelerate and decelerate as little as possible. Using your regen brakes should always make you a little sad.

That was too many times saying, "possible".

 

540 miles driven and I've got just under a 1/4 tank left.

I actually had to use the AC some today, but the heat has lost its punch. Still on track for high 684ish miles. I may fill up early though. I don't want to hit empty at an inconvenient time.

 

Something really annoying happened today when I pulled into the garage though. The ICE decided to fire and run a full cycle. I never shut the engine off in the middle of one of those, because it didn't sound really nice when I did it on my G4. I just let it wind down naturally and shut off. But this happening while stopped in the garage REALLY wasted some gas...

 

Who won?


I think the super-hypermilers could do some really amazing stuff with this car, but it would be a sacrilege as this vehicle was designed to be so much more.

A bunch of short trips hurt it though, as does extreme heat and cold. The G5 is at its best toolin' around at sub-highway speeds. But isn't that the truth for Prii since the beginning?

I will get 700 miles range on my car and just might get 750. And I'll do it without yanking seats out or crazy modifications like the "real" hypermilers do. It has abilities beyond the G4.

I just got back from some errands and had 77MPGs overall. My final trip back home was 5.4 miles and I pegged the individual trip summary at 99.9. Didn't take pics so you'll just have to take my word for it.

No AC and cooler temps are gonna make my already unbelievable fuel economy, even more unbelievable.

I decided to fill up early because, I was near my usual station, and I was bored.



Calculated MPGs were: 67.5
New DTE: 605mi

Almost 2.5% optimistic error on the tank average this time. It's been about .5 MPG's the last two fill-ups. We'll see about the next.

 

The summer temps have finally broken and there's only mild weather in the forecast. Get ready to have your mind blown on the G5's sipping powers.

60 miles on the new tank and we are currently projected to finish at 78 MPG's. Stay tuned!

 

I'll do it my friend! I stay off the highways as much as possible. Not a lot of input from the driver can happen on the highway.

Minimize short trips and highway driving.

Having some fun on an extended drive will not affect your fuel mileage greatly - particularly if you can use your rapidly attained speed to glide a nice distance afterwards.

This tank had several wide-open throttle runs as well as very spirited mid-throttle torquey bursts (those are the best!!!) through the twisties!

This car is amazing.

 

This cooler weather is something else! 105mi on the tank and she's settling in around 75-77 MPGs. I'm gonna blow the doors off my last tank. And I need to go pump up my tires. They're much lower now with the weather change. 37/36, when I usually keep them at 39/38.
