2023 LE fwd mpg, what are you getting?

Owners cheat when they report their mpg values, including high-mpg trips and excluding low-mpg trips. That's why I asked you to report your total average instead of tank average, but you have never done.

 

DTE also uses the speedometer. It is similar to BEV GOM, which uses the recent tank fills (BEV charges) to to do the estimate. My speedometer overestimates 2 mph at all speeds I drive. mpg seems to be overestimated by 5 mpg.

With a PHEV, it is very hard to estimate the HEV mpg for the owner. DTE excludes the BEV miles; so, it is useful for that purpose.

On an HEV Prius, the users should get a good estimate of the mpg on their odometer mpg (Gen 4) or total-average mpg (Gen 5), but they have been cherry-picking and reporting their high trip or tank-average mpgs here.

 

Was driving home the other day when it was dark. Temps were 93F. I decided to roll the windows down and see what I could get. City driving, lots of lights and turns.

Got a great tank going! The heat wave broke and I was able to drive with some nice efficiency. Unfortunately the heat is forecasted to return. Can't wait for the fall.

 

Typically 80-90 F is Primes best temp range in EV, especially if you keep the A/C to a minimum. Though I see you're not using 100 % EV much from what you've posted so far.

Be careful what you're wishing for, by the time Jan. rolls around you might be wishing it was Jul. again.

 

In my G4 LE, I seemed to get the best fuel economy in 60-70F weather. The freezing winter (and fuel) is definitely bad for MPGs. Not looking forward to that. But mild winters periods can be quite decent.

Remember, I'm not driving a Prime. Just a plain old vanilla LE.

I'm averaging 56 miles per gallon also with my 2023 XLE AWD

 

This is wrong on every level. DTE is a calculated value based on the fuel level sensor and the average fuel economy. This is not a long term average either so can wildly change based on driving conditions. It is neither accurate nor honest but rather an estimate of remaining range. In addition to driving habit variations, the fuel level sensor may read inaccurately for a variety of reasons. DTE should NEVER be considered a true measure of remaining range but rather an estimate. A gross one at that.

 

Just under 340 miles on the trip with a touch over half a tank of fuel remaining. Tank average is just under 69. If the heat will stay away a little longer, and I don't have to idle with my dog in the car for any period of time... I just might hit around 680 miles this tank. Definitely will hit 700 in the fall. I'll then shoot for 750. Don't know if I can hit that though. That would be a monster average.

 

The heat is back! It was 100f today. My fuel economy is coming down a bit, but I'm still lookin' good for 680 miles on this tank. I personally think I won't hit that because it's supposed to stay hot for a while. To hit almost 700 miles in this weather would make my G4 look like a Chevy Suburban in comparison.



Over 400 miles driven and the fuel gauge is between the halfway mark, and the 3/8th's left point. Right on schedule!

 

I get 50 miles after the gas gauge reads empty, at 70 mph, even in winter. If I'm at all nervous about making the 60 miles, I throw a gallon can on the floor in the back. After that 50 miles there is always still some gas left in the tank on our Prius.

 

It's been hotter than _ _ _ _ _ out, but I'm keeping the numbers up. 470 miles on the odometer with almost 3/8 of a tank left.

On pace for 68 MPGs actual WITH AC.

23 LTE - on the interstate, 70 mph with cruise control on = 55mpg - this is over two trips of 160 miles. Filled up at the same station, same pump

 

Most of the time when trying for best efficiency, cruise control doesn't help, and could be a hindrance.

 

That's a pretty broad question. You'll have to be more specific. I'll start with: the G5 has awesome potential to fuel sip if that's your goal and you build your driving skillset.

 

Truly. The only time I think it could be complimentary is on flat-a$$ highway roads when you're distracted on a call or something.

 

So we have a 2023 XLE. On a 2.5 hour trip (done twice) at mostly 70mph with the cruise control on we get almost exactly 55mpg. This is backed up by filling it up on our return sitting at the same pump, in the same direction with the nozzle on slow and stopping on the first click. My wife drives back and forth to work which entails some slow speeds and up to 55 mph with some stop signs and stoplights but she gets around 61-62 depending on traffic, etc. Most of this has been done with the AC on as it is hot as Hades in North Carolina. We don't get anywhere in the ballpark of what you get so I am trying to understand what we are doing wrong.
