i just started yesterday. 12 miles on the highway, and it kept swerving back and forth from line to line. could hold a steady course in the middle for some reason

considering that the op said the company was in freefall 2 years ago, and has done nothing but succeed since then, by whatever measure you want to use, i would say no, things have not gotten worse, but even better.

i would say in spite of musks public persona and outrageous tweets (x's?) behind the scenes, i believe he is the mad genius who has brought the company (along with others) to an amazing place in 10-15 years

& .... to add insult to injury, a decade ago toyota owned some 2.3 million shares of Tesla, which went on to split multiple times.

Toyota dumps stake in Tesla as former partners become rivals .

Just think what Toyota could have learned from the innovativeness that put one of Tesla's cars at the top of sales. For one thing - such a joint venture could have meant the prius prime & RAV4 prime wouldn't be experiencing battery shortages .

Ah, but the opposite is true for Musk the personality, and I think that is where Gokhan is getting hung up.

I re-read the article and there are some obvious flaws:
    • Versions are not identified - an area of active improvement, the tested system are listed without either the version identifier or release date. There is no way to tell if what we find at the dealer lot is current or dated.
    • Disconnect prose from their scores - in a fair review, the score for each system would follow their prose description. The distance between their score tables and prose as well as omissions of each system is a favorite technique to mislead by omission.
I was briefly tempted to make a copy of the article and add editor notes. But I dropped Consumer Reports in 2012 after an especially egregious Prius review and several letters to the editor. I figured they write to another audience which does not include this retired engineer. No need to pay for a subscription that pisses me off.

For me, a different reason to avoid Florida:
The excessive use of poorly marked toll roads. I got a 'ticket' mailed to my home for taking a toll road in the Orlando area (ticket did not identify which one.) But even their toll roads are unimpressive with modest speed limits.

On my second trip to drive the BMW i3-REx home, I used I95 and though a little longer, much easier. It was a Saturday but no real traffic jams like the 'toll roads' and western side interstates had.

Maybe the OP was shorting Tesla stock - it'd explain why the vitriol viewpoint. One thing's for sure. Who wouldn't love to be able to boast experiencing over 1,000% stock value increase or the past few years.

they'd want ALL their portfolio to experience this kind of "free-fall"

Coming down from the north, tolls are a part of life until we get to DC.
    Roads, tunnels and bridges.
We have one in mass, I-90, east to west. There are a lot in Florida, but they predate Rhonda.

The Outback has ping-ponged over a couple of stretches, but for thousands of miles, it has been very steady. Now, Subaru doesn't allow its use without cruise control active, and I rarely used that in daily driving. There it is just a warning, and maybe a nudge when I get too close to the lines.

Yet, you reached this conclusion without having driven one.

Even if you have a new car with an active driving assistance system, it takes a while to learn how to use it. It is like learning how to ride a bike—it doesn't happen in a day or a week, but you master it and get comfortable with it gradually.

Your Prius Prime had TSS 1.0. I had that on my 2020 Prius Prime, and I have TSS 2.0 on my 2021 Prius Prime now. 2023 Prius/Prius Prime have TSS 3.0.

TSS 1.0 was next to nothing. It did not have lane-tracing assist (LTA). TSS 2.0 introduced LTA. TSS 3.0 has proactive driving such as speed reduction in curves and so on. So, you are comparing to a very early version of TSS that hardly had any automation functionality.

I am repeating the statement of Jake Fisher, CR’s senior director of auto testing:

“After all this time, Autopilot still doesn’t allow collaborative steering and doesn’t have an effective driver monitoring system. While other automakers have evolved their ACC and LCA systems, Tesla has simply fallen behind.”

So, back in 2019, Tesla's automatic driving assistance system was superior to Toyota's, but now, it is inferior.

I have a '19 Toyota Rav4 hybrid and I used the active steering control and cruise control the first drive I took coming home from the dealers 300+ miles in the dark on an Interstate. Since I had already driven 350 miles up to get the car, I planned to stop on the way back. It was so easy I didn't stop and effectively drove 700 miles in two cars that day. I had not rad the manual, just played with the controls and found it.

Since then, I'd guess 2/3 of my miles have been accumulated with the same system.

Not all Toyotas have the same capability...my wife's Avalon doesn't despite being newer, more expensive and top of the line.

Oh, contrare, I test drove a model 3 before deciding to buy a bolt.
then please inform me how to keep it in the center of the lane, without continually fighting the steering wheel.
I find no help in the manual

    I know, I know:
Just manually, steering assist the car's "Automated Driving" for the rest of the time you own it. Jake Fisher of Consumer Reports believes it is good for you.

I have no experience with Bolt, but on my 2021 Prius Prime with TSS 2.0, LTA works seamlessly. The steering, unlike Tesla's, is collaborative if you want, and the car does not fight you. TSS 3.0 should be even better.

You know better than that, but your emotions are preventing you from being rational.

That is not what he believes at all, and Tesla's system is now outdated and deficient.

You can look up what collaborative steering is, and it is not manual steering. On the contrary, Tesla's steering abruptly falls back to manual steering if there is something wrong and you need to intervene. In cars with collaborative steering, this does not happen whether you intervene or not.
