Hello all! I have 2012 Prius and lately I'm experiencing engine revving sound after I release accelerator and even if I apply breaks it is not reducing the rpm's , I have to touch the accelerator again in order to reduce rmp's. Could that be issue on the air intake or something else? Anyone with similar issue?
Possible throttle body it's drive by wire no physical connection anymore sealed system . You clean replace throttle body and/or sensors I'm sure in the repair manual there is a white intensive procedure to narrow it down.
It could be an early warning sign that your hybrid battery is getting weak. And maybe several other things too.
Yeah when my hybrid battery was falling on its face I could step on the gas in the car would rev into oblivion in the car would barely move and especially when I was moving and I stepped on the gas to go more the car would over rev and not go any faster at first I couldn't really figure it out it was like clutches were slipping but there aren't any and then looking at that guys videos whatever it is Prius University or whatever that is down in Florida I saw how things were coupled up and what have you and how if you have extremely low power going to those electric motors so on and so forth a lot of funny business can start to go on very quickly so when that happens it's good to have a Yaris or a Corolla in the driveway You're basically driving the same engine without the electric motors so you're basically still driving the same car while you work on the Prius.
it has 307k, I replaced engine at 178k.m. with used engine on ~40k. 6yrs ago. It revs after acceleration, not before or up on start up. My battery is well and holding, haven't had any signs of battery issue yet. I'm car electrician(but haven't practiced for over 20yrs) and in my opinion engine revving can not be affiliated with battery issue. I believe it has to do with intake and throttle, could be main board or sensor. Just seeking opinions on those who have faced similar issues and thank you for all input.
Thank you Sam! FYI all hybrids have clutches to engage engine to hybrid inverter, I had to replace mine when I replaced engine.
For those of you in a need of a battery here is a tested source by 4-5 friends of mine https://hybrid2go.com and they have been happy for over 2-3 years with the new battery. The only down site is they are servicing limited states but you may contact them for a refence.
And I believe that you are dead wrong with that opinion. YOUR current situation may not have anything to do with a battery issue, but it definitely CAN . Many, MANY owners notice strange behavior like that before any actual battery faults show up.
ALL hybrids have no such thing. But I don't really know what you are talking about. And I don't remember saying anything about a clutch OR an inverter.
What's picture to Bob is a torque plate not a clutch that flywheel looking assembly bolts to the back of the crank and oil seal is behind it in front of it that plate with the springs bolts to that flywheel It is not allowed to move except the distance of the spring compression which is not a lot. I know it looks like a clutch disc but not quite there's no grabbing surface material there's no disc sandwiched in between the flywheel and a pressure plate this is a torque plate I was saying in my first post above in this category that the engine would rev to Oblivion as if the clutch was slipping in a normal car which this is not a normal car and it doesn't have any clutch and what it was it that's something to do with the electric motor having no power and I guess the engine could just rev the whole assembly right on up and do oblivion without moving the car for some reason Don't really know doesn't really matter but that has happened in another one of these that I've had too so seems to be pretty common.
trading it for a bolt that is supposed to come late this year. 87,000 miles, of which 60,000 is ev, and the battery is fine. still getting 14 miles around town in nice weather. but the engine is stumbling and knocling, so i decided to dump it.
So you have a plug-in thingy so let me ask you this when you drive your 14 mi and the battery's dead in your back to the engine Is it still a hybrid system using an inverter and the two Z engine and the electric motors in the transmission even after you're done with your EV driving of whatever it is 14 mi 18? Does it revert back to just like the Prius is that's not got 14 or 18 mi of electric only driving?
yes, exactly. it's just a regular old third gen prius towing a 400 pound anchor but if you lived in the mountains, a good downhill could recharge it. around here in the flatlands, it stays in hybrid mode.
There is a disc in that torque damper. The pressure plate is permanently applied; there's no release mechanism like a conventional clutch. But the thing really is built like a conventional clutch that you just can't manually release. The springs take up little vibrations (regular clutch discs have those too). If there comes to be a large enough torque between the components, the disc will slip; that's what it's made for.
