2023 Prius LE Problem

I don't know if you are talking about acceleration. I don't care about acceleration.

I care about steering feel and precision, and my 2021 Prius Prime Limited is very good at that. I need to test the steering of the 2023, and if it lacks road feel or is too light to my liking etc., I would not be happy.

 

Steering, handling, cornering.

Acceleration is just a bonus.

The G4 beats the G5 in nothing besides ugly contests and ability to haul most bags of fertilizer.

Seriously.

 

Or groceries.

From Consumer Reports: "Steering response is decent, and a low center of gravity gives it a planted feeling in corners. It’s not a sports car, but it outperforms a lot of less-efficient vehicles. It’s definitely the best-driving Prius yet."

So, it sounds like it still doesn't steer as well as the Honda Civic, but there seems to be some improvement. I need to see and feel it for myself, as everyone has a different taste in steering.

 

I have no idea how a Honda Civic handles, but the G5 is pretty exciting (to me) without giving up driving comfort.

The steering wheel feels VERY comfortable in hand. Pop it on Sport and it tightens up nicely inspiring confidence. It'll shock you when you drive one compared to past gens.

 

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but...

Holy carp is that an ugly angle for that car. There is literally nothing good about that. Best I can say is that the door handles are inoffensive, and the lower black/gray part of the rear bumper cover isn't horrible. This image should be used in design classes to teach how not to design a car.

 

So, it is a dilemma then.

• You get tailgated when you drive on the freeway thanks to the ugly rear end advertising itself with the colossal P R I U S emblem.
• You impress people when you pull up to the curb.

 

Nobody's tailgating my azz. THIS Prius gets respect.

Any problems are quickly eliminated with a blip of the not-so-loud pedal.

 

There actually is a 'tank average' option you can change to from 'trip average' on the Gen 5. I just switched mine last night.

 

I repeatedly asked @Preebee to post his total average but he never has.

 

Stop spreading disinformation Gokhan. What's your deal man? I've posted or commented on just about every single detail regarding my fuel mileage to the point where it's likely getting nauseating for some. I've posted single trip average, round trip average, fuel tank average, manual fill-up average. That's all there is to share. What's total average?

My tank average is currently sitting at 68.3.

 

Total average is displayed in the same place as the tank average by choosing it in the fuel-economy settings. It is actually the default setting; so, you somehow switched to the tank average. So, what is it?

Oh... I must have switched that out the first few days after I got the car. I guess I must have thought it was redundant. It actually kind of is. I'll go in next time I'm in the car and see what it says.

I don't have a clue what "total average" is measuring. I haven't touched that gauge in months.

Trip average matches my last trip.

 

Wow, that total average is since the car was bought? You didn't just reset it by long-pressing OK, right? If it is accurate, it is crazy good!

Perhaps I should upgrade to Gen 5 then. LOL

However, I wonder if the total average and trip average suffer from the 5-mpg overestimation as Gen 4 does. Nevertheless, even if that is the case, these are really good numbers, beating Gen 4. My Gen 4 total average on the display is about 73 mpg, probably with a 5-mpg overestimation. Your 78 mpg beats that.

Let us know what your DTE at next fill-up is. That will be interesting.

 

It is likely what others call 'lifetime average'. The average going back to whenever it was last reset. I'll just stick with Fuelly. Though it is interesting that the Outback with driver monitoring can track lifetime for separate drivers.

 

How do you toggle through to get those different measures? And do they reset when you do? thanks.

 

According to the manual, you toggle through the settings (gear icon).

Apparently only the total average resets if you long-press OK.

 

I will probably wait until the 2024 model year to trade in for a white Prius Prime SE. It is a good thing that I am on the list for a black because it will take forever to arrive, as it is a rare color.
