I've used a custom-fit sunshade from Heatshield on my previous Prius's. For storage, it rolls up with a velcro strap to secure it. It is not a thin cover and actually has some insulating material inside. I have stored it in the hatch against the rear seats. You won't see a price until you put it in the cart, but the current price is $50.

I'm not getting one for the Gen 5 because I rarely leave the car outside in hot conditions. On the rare times when I do that, opening all the windows makes the interior initially tolerable. Using Carista, I was able to add an 'open all windows' command to the key fob.

I use a weathertech custom in my 2017 but am miffed that they STILL 9 months after release are not producing one for the 2023. I see the same problem exists for roof bars. This is really annoying.

We have one of those Heather's heatshields mentioned in post #3 for our Prius. It's the best I've ever used in terms of heat rejection. It's not that small when folded because it just rolls up across one dimension, but this hasn't been hard to live with. They are custom made for each car.

We got one of the new umbrella-style ones for our other car. It's very good coverage and the folded size is absolutely tiny, but it can be a little fiddly in the setup and takedown. I do like being able to drop it in the door pocket when folded.

How is the fit in the windshield and other windows? Does it sag in the middle around the mirror? Does it fit border to border?

I use weathertech rn and it fits perfectly border to border, on every window too, altho there is a bit of sagging around the front mirror which is kindof a bummer. Does yours have panels for all windows for the 23? even the different parts of the hatchback?

The Heather's sags a bit in the middle, but we need it to because of our dashcam.

I gave up on the weathertech stuff. After all the talk about how great they fit I was disappointed with the floor mats they sold us.

after use how are you liking it? Looks like it fits well in the description and that’s what I like! My car is always garage kept, but when park at a big box stores with surface lots temperature inside skyrockets! when the temperatures are 90+ I’ll remote start my car as I check out at the store! It will cool the car for maybe five minutes really makes a difference. One thing I like about the 23 Prius. Your car doesn’t shut off the auto start when you open the door or rear hatch allows you to load your packages while the car is running!

The fit was perfect. It’s not fabric, so it doesn’t sag between the visors. the cutout for the box behind the mirror is exact.

The only reason I’m not getting one for my Gen 5 is thst I now very rarely park outside for long periods of time.

Heatshields are nice quality, however I'm a little skeptical if they have fitted the Gen5 yet.. I might give them a ring to inquire.

if I am spending that kind of money I want to perfect fit I had something similar for my 2019 Volkswagen alltrack I wasn’t super impressed with the roll up design! Was difficult to stow!

I heard the stock one at Toyota dealers, at least near me, for a 2bd Gen, works great. Not positive

I know but it could be a roll-over from an older model. I'd like it to be an exact fit.

I like it. It’s been working really good. It’s been really effective keeping the car cooler. Like I said in the other thread I like these types of sunshades because when folded up it’s takes up minimum space.

I ordered the previous versions within a few months of the generation appearing. I have no doubt that they would have produced it this quickly.

Doesn't it make more sense to put them outside to block the heat? Additionally, if put inside, wouldn't it extremely heat up the glass, leading to issues in some cases?

Yes, you'd get better thermal performance putting it outside, for as long as you retained ownership of it. Which might not be as long as one fitted internally, if you catch my drift.

Auto glass remains pretty stable up to about 1100°F, so there isn't much risk there.

Another thing to consider: what if the weather changes over the course of the day when you're out of the car? Do you want to fold up a rain-soaked sunshade and put it on the back seat?
