How to dispute reimbursement amount from totalled 2016?

    I'm worried that my 2016 might be declared a total loss, and we won't get what it's worth from the insurance company. It's a 2016 Four, non-touring, and has every option possible (roof, HUD, JBL, parking, lane assist, etc). 110,000 miles but still drives like new. When I go to KBB, value says $16,100-$18,500. However, I'll never find another with every option we have for that kind of moneyI I've read that it's good to find similar models to compare value, but there are very few for sale ANYWHERE. Any advice? Obviously, I'm wasting my time if they decide to repair it...
    We got rear ended last week. The rear end got pushed in enough to warp the hatch frame AND hatch, and the hatch will no longer close. I can force it to latch in first position, but system beeps when you drive it. I've been manually latching latch to "fully closed" and keeping it down with a bungee cord. Ironically, all the most valuable parts are probably worth much more than the KBB value. Should I keep it and get a salvage title if they offer enough? IMG_5543.jpg IMG_5544.jpg

    i would think the best you could do is find one as loaded as possible, then show the the difference in msrp between that and yours.
    i would definitely go for the salvage title if an auto body shop gives you reasonably good news.

    I've never had to deal with a "total loss" claim from my auto insurance, but it seems to me you would want to check out the consumer protection laws in your state. Insurance providers are licensed by the state, and therefore must comply with the state's consumer protection laws.

    How a car gets totaled varies greatly by state. The best is to file a claim and let insurance do what they do.

    Insurance companies do not use KBB prices. Many uses NADA or other market surveys, which could be less or more than KBB price.


    Getting a exactly color trim in a used car market is kind of looking for a needle in a haystack. If you keep looking, you probably can find one with all the options you're looking for.

    Depending on your state, you might have other avenues that the attorney can advise you on.
    If your worst fears aren’t realized, sit back and enjoy the experience, and perhaps even consult an experienced attorney to see if it can be even more enjoyable if you weren’t at fault.
