Went down to the Hyundai dealer and looked at the uber efficient ev6 today. They had an all-wheel drive version with those gaudy oversized Wheels & other expensive features that wouldn't necessarily fit us. Asked about the $5,000 below MSRP. Agent almost indignantly insists there isn't one. When pulling it up on the Hyundai website & showing her she just simply shrugged and said "oh". Estimating that if she put ¼ the time into learning her product that she put into the numerous tats that she was sporting, she would have probably known this - but - it was not meant to be.

My first, 2003 Prius ran over 260,000 miles until the unrepairable failure occurred.

More likely the dealer was hoping to net another $5000 through buyer ignorance.

Reminds me of a recorded call when I was on a waiting list for a Prius in 2005, 'The truck has arrived and the first person here with $1,000 gets the car.'

I look at the phone and had no interest in a Prius 'auction.'

car dealers often use bait and switch. Normally there is just one vin in this and there they will switch you to one without the discount. You can't estimate asp of vehicles from advertisements. I don't know if that Hyundai dealer was doing this but my local Toyota dealer kept trying to switch me from buying a Prius when I bought my gen III and had to find a different sales guy and have him order it and wait to not have a bunch of dealer add ons that were over priced and not wanted by me.

Ford is changing strategy on the electric f150 to try to bypass some dealer tricks.

in my recent car buying search, every dealers ad said 'call for availability'

of course, none were available, but would you like this used piece of ship for the same price as new?

of course new is no longer msrp, but srp. what happened to the manufacturers? are they hiding, or just going along for the ride?

    Amen!
Dealers have destroyed their own credibility. So I bought a 2017 BMW i3-REx from a Florida Toyota dealer. They had already dropped the price by $1,500 so I picked it up for a good price. What really pisses me off, "Let me run this by my manager."

It worked, and a sale rep mentioned it to his manager, who mentioned to a regional manager, and so on and so forth.
I think that is my most cringeworthy dealer phrase as well.

What I love about on-line buying. You get a single price, no negotiations.

Ask for the fleet salesperson or internet sales person at a big dealership.

Saved at least $3.5k on each of my last two car purchases of hybrids both during shortages times and never heard a manager's name mentioned.
