I have had my new 2023 Prius LE AWD for about a week and there's something about the cruise control that I can't figure out.

Let's suppose I'm driving through town, the speed limit is 35 mph and I have set the cruise control to 35. Works great. But then I come to the limits of the town, I'm now on a rural road where the speed limit is 55, and I can accelerate to 55 using the gas pedal, but how do I set the cruise control to 55? I can press the + button 20 times (which I don't think is a good solution) or I can hold down the + sign until the cruise control gets to 55 (again, I don't like this solution). There must be another easier way to have the cruise control "jump" from 35 to my current speed 55. How do I do that?

Now also, the opposite scenario is something I haven't figure out yet. I have the cruise control at 55 and I come to a town where the speed limit is 35. I can slow down using the brakes or by just turning off the cruise control, but how do I set the cruise control from 55 to 35 in one easy "jump"?

On my 2023 LE, I simply press the top button "set" and the cruise is set to the speed I am running. i.e. after accelerating to your desired speed, set the cruise.

Go to page 259 in your driver's manual. Basically, when you are at the speed you want for dynamic cruise control just press the top left button on the right side of the steering wheel. It's called the Driver Assist Switch. You can do this when speeding up or slowing down. Once you reach the desired speed, press the Driver Assist Switch. Simple.

Thanks! I have a road trip this weekend, I'm sure I will give that a try!

Is there a "cancel" button ?
If all else fails, cancel followed by SET should always work.

That’s what I’d do; bring speed to 55, tap Set.

The confusion is because there's no button labeled SET.

When moving up to a new speed (like going from 35 to 55)
    1. Press the Driving Assist Switch (the official name for the top left button that turns the cruise control on)
    2. Press the +/RESUME button (you might have to double press it or hold it briefly; I noticed it worked for me today, but I didn't notice if it worked on the first press or not)

When moving down to a new speed (like going from 55 to 35)
    1. Press the Driving Assist Switch (the official name for the top left button that turns the cruise control on)
    2. Press the - button (I don't know for certain if this works, but it seems logical)

I don't mean press the +/- buttons a bunch of times or hold them for a long time, just try pressing them once, twice, or holding them briefly after stabilizing your new speed with your foot on the accelerator.

    The sequences would go:

    Cruise set at 35
    Speed limit changes to 55
Accelerate to 55 using the accelerator
Press either the top left button or the +/RESUME button

    Cruise set at 55
    Speed limit changes to 35
    Press brake or press CANCEL
Slow to 35 and press accelerator to maintain speed
Press either the top left button or the - button

There is a 'cancel' button just the the right of the +/- buttons

Lots of possibilities! I will try these out, I have a road trip later today!

Yesterday, I drove over 300 miles in my new Prius LE AWD, and tried out the cruise control changing of speeds as discussed above. When I slowed down from highway speed to about 35, a single push of the Driving Assist Switch set the speed properly to 35. This happened consistently and without exception worked properly.

But in the other direction, accelerating from 35 to 55, I found the results inconsistent — sometimes a single push of the Driving Assist Switch worked to set the speed at 55, but other times it required me to push the button twice. Perhaps I have missed some key fact in my understanding, but this inconsistency is bothersome, and requires me to take my eyes off the road more than I would like.

I did not try the suggestions where you can use the RES/+ button yet.

Coming back to this a month later, I still haven't figured out how to consistently handle the case where cruise control is set at 35, then you get on a highway and want to set cruise control to 55. I have paid careful attention to the results of my pressing the buttons in these situations, and it still seems to me that there are times when pressing the Driving Assist Switch once gets the job done, and other times when pressing the Driving Assist Switch twice is needed to get the job done. There are also situations when pressing the RES+ button gets the job done, and other times when it does not get the job done.

I cannot figure out a logic to this. I cannot figure out why Toyota would design and implement features that behave differently at different times in what appears to be the exact same context. In the back of my mind I still believe there is some logic to this, it doesn't make sense to design features this way (and I have never experienced this type of inconsistency so noticeably on my other cars). But I still can't figure it out. It is very frustrating. If anyone has advice not already mentioned, please speak up!

The timing of your button pushes might be important.

On one of my vehicles, a prolonged push of the RES + button appears to do nothing because
it is trying to increase the set speed when the cruise isn't really engaged.
OTOH, a quick tap on the RES button does just that; it resumes the previously set speed.
I'm guessing that a quick tap on the SET button would set the new speed too but don't remember that for sure.
