"According to the North Carolina Consumers Council, drivers should expect to lose 1-2% of their fuel economy for every mile per hour they drive over 55mph."

Fourth fill data: 43 MPG 221 “HV miles” 5.091 gallons (Total HV+EV driving: 248 miles 60% SOC used )

My computation of average is 45.3 MPG.

The app is projecting 474 HV miles which would indicate the car’s computation for the average of the four fills is 44.7 MPG. (474 / 10.6)

But the MID fuel economy “Tank Average” displays 99.9 MPG for some reason.

I love the Vehicle/Trip Information/History screen for monitoring my MPGs. I can measure a single trip, parts of a trip, or all day. Just hit update to reset. And I get 199.99 measurability.

I like to keep it on the Current page when I drive though, so I can monitor the "instant MPG" bar on the right side of the screen. All I use that for is to see when the ICE cuts off. The Eco badge isn't always on when the ICE is off. When the bar pops up to 100 MPGs I can be certain the ICE is off. The Eco badge will come on a bit later.

How quiet must the new G5 Prius be if I can't hear when the ICE turns off???

One question: What would you estimate the length of your average drive to be (from start to shut-off)?

I do the same (when in HV mode) but I use the "instant MPG" in the MID display, as it is directly in front of me.

    Instant HV MPG.JPG

    Stats from 36 start-to-shutoff trips: Ave 7.3, max 20, min 0.3 mi

When I start driving in HV mode the total seems to be around 18 MPG gradually rising to 50-58 by 10 miles, but that is baloney because when I filled the tank - the actual was 43 for 248 total miles.

In my 2009 Prius the indicated MPG was usually only 4% higher than the actual. I set up my 2023 Prime for "Tank Average" but it is still showing 99.9 MPG for some reason.

Stats from 30 days: Ave 24, max 44, min 7.5 miles

On a recent trip I gassed up (after having driven in separate trips over a few days of over 10 hours total (with just one plug in recharge), mostly highway) and the last 74 miles of my last trip segment driving in HV with no charge showing on the EV my trip time was 1:05 and trip average was 45.3 mpg with EV driving ratio of 21% (off the dash gauge when you turn the car off). I don't fully understand what that all means with the EV mixed in but I was driving fast and without regard to fuel economy and think it is pretty good.

I see! I like to have the energy flow gauge up on the left side so I can see the reserve charge. If I've got 4 bars or higher, I know to let off the accelerator immediately at cruising speeds to cut the ICE. If I'm at 3 bars, I'll usually keep my foot steady longer to allow recharge and see if the ICE will cut off on its own.

If you have a lot of short trips (2 miles or less), you're going to get penalized in HV mode - particularly if you stop for a while. I think the G5 (in HV mode) might penalize drivers a bit more for short trips vs. the G4, simply due to the increased power output. When that larger displacement engine is on, it theoretically should be burning more fuel than its predecessor.

But if the drive is long enough, the bigger (more efficient?) battery in the HEV model exceeds the performance of the G4 in many ways. I can't name them exactly lol, but I'm consistently surprised by a very high MPG trip. I'll need the temps outside to drop to see if I can match my all-time highs in the G4 (adjusting for the prior gen's optimistic results).
