Never seen a Gen 5 on the road

I feel your pain. I’m going over to test drive the second silver XLE black interior with Toyo tires this afternoon. I’m creating a story in my head regarding why they delayed telling me about its arrival. It’s been there since Sunday night. Maybe not in as much of a rush with end of the month quota over.

Gradient black is really a charcoal gray. Not that pure very hot black like Gen 4. Have you seen it?

I need to find a good road for testing. Will drive my 2009 over a few not so pristine spots for comparison first.

would def be better if charcoal as opposed to pure black. Had a 2013 with charcoal fabric and it was ok

How do you like the silver? Is it your first choice? Have you seen it in person or will the test drive be your first look?

It’s my first choice and second one I’m test driving. : } I’ve seen the fabric in the SE Prime and it’s the nicest cloth I’ve ever seen in a Toyota. Not pure black a weave made of different shades but looked classy looking to me. From memory I think the LE fabric is similar multi color but a bit darker. Always a bit rough but not bad. I like the look of light colored Softex but can’t deal with the long term look.

If you aren’t too far away, go take a look. I would refuse to pay markup. If they want the sale, they will accept MSRP.…you want to be happy with the color!

I’m sitting here waiting patiently for the salesman while a customer is telling me I should wait for the 2024! Omg!

 

In California - seen a handful of Gen fives - one lives within a quarter mile's walk from my house, actually. A few here and there on the road, but oddly enough only 1 Crown.

 

so what's happened?!

 

I took it for a ride and it was definitely nosier especially on the kind of roads I travel daily. I also was hearing a wind noise along the drivers window that I didn’t hear in the first one. Same loose fabric in back. Probably both made on the same day. I’m going to wait.

Unfortunately I missed this weeks allocation because they weren’t going to reserve another one while still having this one on the lot. So I have to wait until mid August. This means the earliest will be October.a

This one had been driven by someone and the music was set up. Sirius sounds great. It’s the radio that sounds a bit muffled. Are there ways to improve this? My 2009 JBL radio is crystal clear.

 

why wait for 24?

 

I’m not planning waiting for 2024. She and her husband are stalling for 2024 Corolla which is a different story. Psychologically 2024 sounds better during trade in time and the idea of not buying the first run of new generation but the Prius is probably going to be just an ongoing run of the 2023 model and stamped 2024.

 

The edge guards look like those posted by Preebee. They serve 2 purposes:
1) help prevent the door edge from getting dented or bent if it hits an object
2) More importantly, they reduce the damage to object (the side of a car too close to you?) when the door is opened. By expanding the surface area of contact, they lessen the force at any point of contact.

While I'm sure none of us deliberately allow the door to hit another with force , it happens. I remember when I opened a door as a gust of wind hit it and banged it into the neighboring car.

 

So if a big bang happens are these edge guards easily pulled off and replaced? I guess the answer is yes.

 

Think I saw one yesterday on the highway. In my rear view mirror, just realized the lights were likely the 2023 Prius. But I was going about 75 and was not slowing down to say hello. And, the mpg even at 70-75 I think is very good. I gassed up (after having driven in separate trips with just one recharge of over 10 hours, mostly highway) and the last 75 miles of my trip driving in HV with no charge showing on the EV my trip time was 1:05 and trip average was 45.3 mpg with EV driving ratio of 21% (off the dash gauge when you turn the car off). I don't fully understand what that all means with the EV mixed in but I was driving fast and without regard to fuel economy and think it is pretty good).

A hybrid uses ev even at highway speeds. Usually in parallel with the engine and technically everytime the engine shuts off on a downhill, braking, or simply slowing.

 

I did my first real MPG test today in my LE AWD. I was actively being a Sunday driver and using a feather light foot on the pedals. 116 miles round trip on a scenic route in CT on a warm summer day where the speed limit was between 40-55 with very few stop lights.
Result: 70 MPG! 65 on the way up and 75 on the return trip. (There is always a difference because the return trip has more downhill.) I have driven the same route at least a dozen times in my 2010 Prius and I was never able to achieve higher than 58mpg round trip. I'm pretty astonished. It is definitely noticible that the battery has more power now to sustain much longer and even at a slight incline without having to engage the ICE. And even when the ICE does engage it is barely noticible

 

This is nice to hear. I guess you have smaller tires than XLE AWD which makes a difference but still good news.

I thought smaller tires and less weight (no AWD) both increased mpg regardless of shoe size.

 

no evidence, but hard to understand what else contributes to such a discrepancy on prius and camry hybrid as well

 

I’ve seen three in person. One in the wild and I have sat in two separate ones at a dealership. Of course they were already sold, so I was unable to test drive them.

That didn’t stop me from reserving a supersonic red XSE prius prime that is being shipped as I type.

It’s been ages since I first joined here with my first ever Prius in 2005. I currently drive a 2016 Prius C and my husband a 2017 Prius C. The cars are just so reliable I could continue with my current car but the second I saw the 2023 model I think its safe to say it was love at first sight.

Looking forward to getting to know other members who are driving the 2023 Prime. It’s my first ever plug-in so I’ll have loads of questions.
