    First paragraph:

This opening conclusion doesn’t seem supported.
First, rather than demand going down, it may also indicate supply going up.
In addition, they lump hybrids in there in “electrified vehicles”. So any inference about demand for plug in vehicles needs to be tempered.

Later, they mention how dealers needed to lower prices of EVs that couldn’t qualify for the federal rebates. This makes sense. However, it doesn’t support the conclusion that ‘demand for … electrified vehicles may be slipping’.
It does support the idea that demand for EVs that don’t get the $7500 rebate can’t be sold at above MSRP.

It’s true around here. Most ev’s on the lots are high msrp and loaded.
Nissan is discounting big time, same with Hyundai and Kia.
Bz4x are languishing, idk if they are discounting, I haven’t checked.
The problem is that even after discounts they are still a lot of money because no fed tax credit.
Id4 gets it, but unpopular and expensive.
Tesla and bolt are highly coveted because of the $7500.
I’m putting a putting a deposit on a bolt tomorrow and test driving an M3 on Saturday.

I occurred to me "MSRP" and "Tesla" are oxymorons. Without dealers, Tesla just has "Manufacturer Price" (MP).

To me I couldn't care less about the incentives for buying an ev. It's not a rebate, it's a tax break. And since I'm poor I don't have to pay much in taxes in the first place. I see virtually no benefit in the tax break on my end. Now if it was a straight-up rebate that would be a different story.

agree, it only works if you qualify for it.

I have heard, that if you lease, the leasing companies pass through the full tax rebate. Check this out carefully as some may not.
I have also heard that in 2025 this will become a point of sale credit. This may not have made it into the final version of the law.

I think the point of sale part made it, but it might still be a tax credit. The buyer signs their right to the credit away to the dealer. So the buyer's tax liability might still apply. It is suppose to go into effect next year, and we should get clarifications then.

that would be a tremendous benefit either way, but could be cumbersome if buyer has to prove eligibility

My view on this issue is no different than my view of needing to have a review board take 6 months to decide if you are going to die during pregnancy or not and then sue you if they don’t feel you definitely will

Neighbor across the street had guests over - who pulled up in an ionic 5 with big letters splashed across the side advertising "$5,000 off" .... the EV was still sporting the brand new paper temporary plates so I presume the guests traveled across from the state of Washington - where such sales / discounts are more common than here. $5,000 below MSRP? If that's the pitch -that's pretty crazy!
Then while trying to find where this pricing is going on, came across this !!

    https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1139941_hyundai-ioniq-6-price-undercuts-tesla-model-3

As with most advertisers, there are several caveats and boilerplate and different discounts for different models - so no intent on misrepresentation on my part
    ;)

ya there's lots of that going on around here. problem for me is the models are loaded and i'm just nota $50,000. kind of car guy. i could be, but i'm just not interested.
and spending $50,000. for a 'hyundai' just rubs me the wrong way.
i do realize there are tons of buyers in that market

I wonder if the plug standardization some years out will have people thinking "I'll wait as I want the best supporting infrastructure". Which could mean that the rush to EVs slows as the only choices are rumored about to be refreshed Teslas and not up to future standards others.

I think that is a smaller influence. There is also the possibility the factories are ramping up production as part supplies increase. The discounts and supply on dealer lots I'm hearing about are mostly models not qualifying for the federal tax credit though.

if i were looking for a car for traveling, i would just buy a tesla. but if i really wanted something else, i would wait until the charging was standardized, or by the tesla now and trade later.
not sure how many potential ev buyers are doing due diligence.

Not everybody spends their life nerding about cars. You know the old Cindy Lauper song….Girls Just Want to Have Fun

    IMG_2624.jpeg

Besides it’s not the new car buyer that trades regularly that gets hit with reliability issues, it is the owner who thinks his car will make 300k or worse yet, the used car buyer whose budget is $10k and the cute red headed 2013 v is winking at him.
