I use the car for uber eats and car runs and drives decent but has issue's like brakes very sensitive in the rain. Dash screen works when it wants to and I'm worried other systems are not far from failure. I can get a recon battery for 1100 just not sure the car is worth putting that much into it.
Dash screen is easy fix, it just needs a more powerful capacitor swap with existing one on that circuit board. As a general rule a recon battery is good for 3 months to 3 years... And a new pack, either OEM or from https://projectlithium.com/?ref=9qLPw is worth it because you'll be able to use it on your next Prius too (up to year 2015) as well for 10+ years.
There are some gen4 Prii that use the same battery modules as the earlier generations. MY 2020 AWDe uses the older NIMh batteries and should be able to use Project Lithium modules as well. JeffD
How many deliveries will it take to pay for a new battery? Start there. I would say given the cost of Used cars keep it and go NEW battery and keep driving it.
Thank you for the responses. I decided to get a battery from Greentec. I'm hoping it gets me another year out of this thing. Next is tearing apart the dash that doesn't look to bad to do and replace the capacitor. I only paid 4500 for the car with 175k. Same car now is 8k and above. Plus interest rates on used cars depend on so many things now.
A couple more years of driving it in gas savings alone is a pretty significant amount of money compared to what other cars that will cost you less than $5k can offer.
Well sure wish I could cuss on here but after putting in recondition battery all was good for about a little over a week and Triangle came on again and gave same code p3013. Same code it gave with the old battery.
Brakes bad in the rain - you mean that they are super grabby? That is normal for these cars after the brakes get wet and the car has sat. It is due to rust rapidly accumulating on the swept surfaces. Any time you drive the car after it has sat with wet brakes you need to get the rust off for them to work normally. For instance, get up to 30 mpg, put it in neutral (hold it there for a few seconds to make it shift) and then step on the brakes hard. Or just do a few hard stops in drive. Once the rust is off it should be good for the rest of that driving session.
Thats what I was worried there is another issue beside the battery. When both the old battery and new battery failed it was super hot like 95. Old battery I had air con on new battery I did not. I reset the codes and ubered for another couple hrs and no problem. It's odd that the new battery had the same P3013 code as the old battery. I did fix the dash screen finally. Wasn't bad YT video's sure made it easier.
