Battery is good, however, the fob must now be inserted into the ignition to start/drive the vehicle and it no longer provides automatic door unlock with a handle pull at close range. Probable causes? Thanks in advance.

It remotely locks and unlocks the car when pressed as normal, including from a longer distance. This happens with both fobs (both with working battery).

if you mean it works when you press the fob button, that's what mine did when the 12v was low.
might be worth getting a free load test at auto zone

Just to clear, does that mean a 12-volt showing no other signs of being weak would prevent starting the car with the fob in the pocket, stop auto door unlock on approach, and necessitate insertion to start the car if the charge isn't up to par, yet otherwise start the car and run fine every day? And did yours require insertion to start the car?

Interesting - this must routinely happen then to others. 12 volt functioning fine, no other indication of a low battery, car starts up instantly each time, runs well, but no remote auto unlock and key has to be inserted in the dash. A year ago, dealer suggested it could be something else - couldn't say without a costly diagnosis.

Have you checked the "Key" button under the steering wheel is in the 'out' position?

That switch disables the SKS when it is in the 'in' position.
