Tires size possible deal breaker on 2023 Prius?

That’s the only advantage of not getting a spare tire with the car.
It’s much easier to check on the floor of the hatch

 

I was discussing how a dealer letting the spare tire pressure drop doesn't negate the effects on that tire from the previously higher pressure.

 

The current but ordinary Corolla has an 11.5 inch front rotor and I have 15" Prius wheels on it.

Some of the reviews of the new Prius note a not very quiet ride, but all the test review cars appear to have the 19" wheels.

 

Was just browsing the 2023 Prius Quick Reference Guide this morning; if I'm not mistaken the spare (if you get one...) is stowed outside facing up, which would make the valve accessible without removal.

 

I think that was how most spares are stored.

 

not the prius spares, they are upside down. i haven't seen gen4

 

that would be great. i know you can buy an extender, but for most people, the upside down spare is a deterrent to checking it more often imo. and probably why most dealers don't bother

 

The factory generally overinflates the regular tires*, but I don't know about the spares.

*Part of the dealer delivery checklist is to adjust the pressure on the tires. Toyotas from US factories to US dealers might have fairly standard pressures, but cars shipped from Japan to NA or Europe have tires typically inflated to 55-60 psi to prevent flat spots from developing during shipping.

 

Gen4 is face down yes.

 

Costco now has the 19 inch (else where too but I get all my tires at Costco). Firestone has the 17 inch and have free rotation as well.
I'm getting the new LE by end of this month and looking forward to it and hopefully these 17 inch tires will be more available by the time I need new times.
Some reasons I chose the LE, other than the 5K price difference from the XLE, is that 17" inch are/will be cheaper obviously; also, the LE, to my knowledge, comes with a spare, which I'm more comfortable with than a repair kit, even when I'm a DIYer when I can.

 

The spare for the Prius is only in certain markets. The US does not appear to be one of those markets.

 

The price difference between LE and XLS is $3445. The LE does not come with a spare in the US. For me the extra $3445 was worth it for the Softex seats, power driver seat, wireless phone charger, HomeLink on mirror, Smart key on passenger door and hatch, and the arm rest in the back. The 19" wheels will mean more expensive tires and reduced mileage, but I'm good with the 55 mpg I'm getting and the wheels do look nice. Everybody has different priorities.

 

If I do get another Prius Prime in the future I'm going to go for the XSE aka XLE. No smart key on the passenger and trunk is annoying

You must have XLE FWD? Do you protect the Softex in any way? This will be my first experience with Softex. I’m going to really miss my leather steering wheel. Thinking of getting some sort of cover for steering wheel and front seats because of my gardening and working with clay. Concerned how well Softex handles being covered. It doesn’t respond to naturals oils the way leather does so I’m not sure what to do in order to protect the faux leather coating. I picked XLE specifically for smart fob options and Softex. I find Toyota cloth sheets to be rough and not as comfortable.

 

Yes I have an XLE FWD. I don’t protect the Softex with anything. It feels real nice on the steering wheel and the seats. After sitting in a Prius with Softex I knew I wanted it. I’m very easy on my cars, so I’m not worried about it.

 

Have to talk to dealer but if we can use at least a similar diameter in 205 tire width then we have way more tire options. Only way for us to drive the cars if limited to one tire that's made by Michelin. Will repost when I find out.

 

I am definitely going to use either a 205-55R17 (camry size) or perhaps a 205-60R17. I need studded Nokians on mine or i wont be able to get out of my driveway during winter. Those 195-60R17 Michelins just wont cut it..

 

Not at all sure what fuss is about. Your local Toyota/Prius dealer stocks Toyo tires in the correct size and can get Michelins within a day or so. There is no shortage or difficulty. Snow tires? I have no clue......

 

Are they $59 like the 215/55r17’s I just bought?
