Change coils and injectors: now have INSANE mpg reading and codes

    @BrianStranded can I ask why you wanted to replace your coils and injectors in the first place? It wasn't clear to me from the first post. I get you replaced the head gasket, also wondering why, and what the logic or code was that led you to replace the rest.

    My logic was the car has 180,000+ miles and I believed preventive maintenance was warranted. I also changed the water pump, inverter water pump, radiator, thermostat, overflow bottle, pvc valve, flushed heater core and cleaned the egr/intake to like new.

    When I change the brake booster/accumulator I will change these new plugs and coils to oem parts. After then brake booster/accumulator I’m refreshing the suspension. And finally the interior. This will be my commuter car; I drive 300 miles a day sometimes. It was either this Prius or a 2011 Lexus LS for commutes, I went with gas mileage in hopes I can silence the Prius.

    Update: I installed the Beck/Arnley injectors and she is now perfect!

    Notes: The initial startup after the injector install was super rough. After letting it sit for 5 min it ran perfect on restart. Im guessing the injectors had to calibrate.

    Awesome, congrats! Probably just needed to get the last air bubbles out of the fuel line.

    You should still replace the plugs to be safe, but you might as well keep going with the coils you have. Just be ready to replace them at the first hint of P030x down the road.

    Great! Let us know what your mileage settles down to. I'm curious as to wether it improves from pre changes. My 2010 has never gotten above 48mpg from new.

    @BrianStranded, have you disclosed the miles at which your head gasket blew? <Ok, 180k miles, found it.

    Had the EGR system ever been cleaned, and when? If not, have you cleaned the EGR system now, including intake manifold? My 2 cents, clogged EGR is cause of the blown head gaskets.

    Consider oil catch can too.

    Before my headgasket repair I got 43.3 mpg. I’m now getting 50.1 mpg after 105 miles of driving.

    Update: I’m getting 46mpg now that my a/c is recharged and in use. I’m also not getting the brake regen because my accumulator needs to be replaced, so maybe 50mpg is possible.

    To be precise my headgasket blew about 170k miles, I put blue-devil in to seal the gasket and extend my use. Bad idea as it clogged alot of stuff (seen upon disassembly).

    I now have 191k miles (not 180k). I cleaned the egr, intake manifold, etc, mostly with a high pressure hose at a car wash. I’m assuming I was the first to clean it since the egr was completely clogged. I’ll install a catch can later.
