Thinking of showing up to the dealer later this morning and surprising them with a police report

I would suggest posting in the Prius V section of this forum. This is the 2023 Prius area of the forum but obviously someone will respond. Maybe you already did.

I personally attempt to get ann idea of what might have gone wrong before approaching dealer although if they are open today, I would be sure to call them.

Plus look up consumer protection laws for car purchasing in Phoenix. I live in CT and pretty sure a used car dying the next day would be covered unless it was abused in some way.

In Arizona there is no cooling off period

It was bought used at 97k.The salesguy even let me take it to a mechanic shop I chose and the mechanic said the battery was fine

    No codes came up

And was told I could leave the Ac running while asleep

Sales guy texted me saying he will get someone to tow it and have a look at it at the dealer

Codes only show up after you get the engine light, so they will find them now.
Are you sure you didn’t run out of gas?

First thing to do on a 2012 with a hundred thousand miles is clean the egr circuit so you don’t blow the head gasket

Wow. Too bad you did not ask first. A 2012 v has a load of potential issues after 11 ten years of use.

    1. Did the car stop on its own?
    2. Hold the keyfob to the Power switch and then try it.
    3. Check gas level.
    4. Check codes. Possible overheating in one of the two cooling systems.

Return it especially if it cost more than $9k. It is an expensive car to fix down the road. Using it for sleeping while running is not safe and is not good for the engine.

Common issues you will see over the next few years: HV battery replacement, inverter coolant pump, engine coolant pump and or brake by wire (brake booster) system fail. Head gasket failures are common especially using it like this. Well over $10k in repairs if a good independent hybrid shop is used.

Other upcoming issues include oil consumption and excessive carbon buildup in valves, intake and egr. The egr is close to $1000 to clean at a dealer. Inverter failure can strand you and is a possibility tight now. Toyota may cover an inverter issue for another two or three years.

This car is not an allergy solution or a home.

    He DID ask first.......sort of.
And ignored every bit of advice that his plan might not be a good one.

    Bottom line, I think:
His powers or reasoning are SERIOUSLY lacking if he thinks anywhere in Florida is
good for someone with severe mold problems.

And if he thinks using a vehicle in a way that is was NOT designed for is a good idea.
    Especially one that old.

This was in the gen5 forum until his last post. Gen4 or Gen5 is a different story than a 2012 gen3.

Now I'm concerned with the emf in this vehicle

And I am a bit concerned that you might be spinning a "story" here.

I would not worry about emf since most of the power is dc and shielded. Strong emf comes from ac power which is limited to the shielded inverter under the hood and the shielded transaxle under the inverter. More emf in a house, much more under high voltage power lines.

What did the dealer do to fix the car?

    Hello rj,

Essentially they just changed the battery after they towed in.It was fixed same day

    The smaller battery

Apparently sleeping in the car overnight for 4hrs with ac running did something to the battery

Regarding the emf.I spoke with lessemf,a company based in NY

    Lessemf.com

They said they reccomend less than 2.5 MG[MilliGauss]

    Trifield meter would measure this

It's about 180 for the meter

If it's greater than 2.5 mG they said people can use material to shield the ground

The 12v battery was just bad. Nothing to do with car camping. Unless you shutoff the car in the middle of the night but left things on like lights or the blower.

Perhaps the OP may want to reconsider Florida: They will soon be using radioactive materials in their roadways. I find it interesting that the OP isn’t concerned about the phosphate production waste being dumped in Florida’s water ways; the Level 4 hurricanes; etc, etc. and while we’re at it, skin cancers.

Sometimes we have to prioritize and control what we can. I could never live in Florida for a number of reasons but if I was there right now I would be stuck due to limited resources.

I would love to move somewhere warmer but disabilities etc. can really put a damper on options/choices in life. There is housing for people with multiple chemical sensitivities, severe allergies and EMF sensitivities but it’s scarce and has long waiting lists.

I hadn’t heard of the radioactive materials being used in roadways. Yikes…what next!

So no problem running Ac while sleeping at night as this won't do the same thing to battery ?
