Soft inserts for trays/compartments/etc.

Hope someone has a solution. I guess I’m sort of used to the hard plastic in my Gen 2 but things do rattle around and drive me nuts. A fabric coated hair elastic or napkin work in my cup holder. : )

I will not be using the wireless charger and need to find something to put there so it doesn’t become a dust collector. Hoping my phone cover will be grippy enough to keep my phone from sliding around elsewhere. I might have to drape a scarf over the vinyl fabric behind the steering wheel. I hate that look and know why it’s there but it’s going to be a PIA to dust it off.

All this talk. I have about 3 weeks until delivery. Just watched a funny video of a guy putting a Corolla Cross Hybrid through an adventure. Obviously this vehicle isn’t meant for off road. Made me giggle. If anyone ‘s bored, here it is. Humbling experience. The sonic silver looks fine in this video but in person it’s kind of a gray silver. Not bright like the cutting edge. Who knows a Red Cross Hybrid could be my future ride. : /

 

You might still want to charge your phone there by running a charging cable from one of the USB-C ports in the console box to the slot. There's a groove in the plastic between the front of the console and the slot that allows you to feely run a cable there.

 

Part of the issue is I use a chunky Otto protector on my phone. It’s supposedly compatible with wireless charging but not sure it will fit. Plus some of the reviews stated the Prius charger really heats up the phone. Maybe only some of them? I’m new to wireless charging. Does plugging the phone into USB cable deactivate the wireless charger? Can’t imagine the phone could handle both charges at the same time.

 

Our 3rd gen’s armrests have rubber liners covering small recesses. IIRC there’s hard plastic and a screw head visible if you remove the liners, which happens real easy if you’re vacuuming the interior of the car.

Anyway, for the one I sucked into a vacuum (and finally gave up trying to recover), I fashioned a replacement from rubber matting purchased in hardware store.

 

The wireless charger only charges if you press an on button at the front of the slot.

I was just cleaning out my glove compartment and console areas. The 2009 was such a well designed car. The cup holder area actually does have rubber liners. They fit so well I didn’t notice. I never used the upper glove compartment area and found a nice strip of black rubber lining in there. I will keep it for future use. : }

I spent all that time removing those dots from the paint and received an email saying they probably don’t need to see the car for trade in estimate. Probably because it’s going to be so low.

I guess I felt the need to clean her up for a proper goodbye. I’m already feeling the sadness of letting this car go. She’s been a great ride and I will miss the cabin view, super comfy leather seats, steering wheel and her interior aesthetic.

 

Nuts I know, but I can recall driving away from dealership in a new car, seeing our forlorn trade-in sitting on the lot.

 

Don't remember ever doing that, but maybe I did. Either way, once it's on, it will charge whenever you put a phone in. It doesn't reset between drives. I'm finding it's pretty bad. It's very fussy about phones in cases, heats up like crazy, and barely keeps my phone even when using Android Auto. I stopped using it other than long trips (2hrs+) and for those I have to take it out of the case.

 

Your experience is the norm. It’s designed to start charging as soon as you put the phone in the slot. Any reviewer I’ve watched who had time with the car said the charger heats up the phone which is a big no no.

 

The charger does seem to be finicky when it comes to charging. I've got a thin case, but I have to move the phone around every third or fourth charge attempt to get it to stay paired. I've found that pushing the phone forward as far as it can go seems to be more successful that letting it sit in the middle. I suspect different models of phones will have different sweet spots depending on where exactly their power receiver is located on the back of the phone.


Regarding heat:

I can't speak for Apple phones, but most modern Android phones have multiple charging speeds. My Samsung S22 has three wired speeds and two wireless speeds. The faster your phone charges, the more heat it generates and the shorter the lifespan of the battery. I've set my phone to the lower wireless speed and the medium wired speed. The majority of my charging is done by a wireless charger at my bedside. I only use wired charging when my phone is almost dead and I need a quicker boost of power. That's why I've got wired charging set to medium instead of low. If my primary charging method was wired, I'd have that set to low as well.

With these settings, my phone barely gets warm in the Prius charger. But it also means that if I'm using the phone to stream music to the head unit, the charging barely keeps up with the discharge. That works for me as I don't use my phone a ton, but might not work for everybody. In other words, I'm only gaining a few percentage points of charge per half hour if the phone and its WiFi antenna are being used constantly during the charging. If the phone is able to go into standby, then I get more charging done, but it would still take hours to fully charge the phone from 0%.

(I also have my phone set to never exceed 85% charge, but that's another discussion.)

 

Blue Book trade in good condition for my 2009 Mica Blue Prius was $4k minimum.

Dealer offered $1500. They were willing to go as high as $3000. Claimed they can't do anything with a car that old no matter how good it is.

I need to stop using it. Every time I do, I forget to grab my phone when I leave the car.

 

For me that's the passenger seat. I am still getting used to the tall dominant center console. I leave stuff on the passenger seat, then when I get out, it's not obvious because the view is blocked by the console and I forget things.

 

Ouch. I got $9k in trade for my 2010 Classic Silver Prius 2(base trim). Low milage for its age(90k) and a few tasteful upgrades(fog lights, auto-dimming rearview mirror with homelink, android-based head unit, backup camera, full LED conversion). They advertised it at $12k and it sold within two weeks(I don't know for how much of the $12k).

 

Car Max quoted me $1200. So unfortunate one can’t get compensated for all OEM parts that were just replaced last year. At least $4k worth of bumpers etc. plus a new after market cat converter. Blue Book is much higher. I’ve never tried negotiating a trade in. Usually sell to private sellers. I don’t want to deal with private sellers this time unless it would be someone local and an easy transaction. Too stressful. I guess I can print out BB and NADA values and push for an increase.

 

We spent two weeks of our spare time detailing our 2009 for sale. We found two storage compartments we’d missed or forgotten about! Being a one-owner car with service done at a Toyota dealership made the sale. It was a bit sad to see the new owner drive away. We bought a ‘23. So many safety and convenience features. The insurance rate on it is great.

 

I sold my daughter's 2008 for $5400 this past August. Was solid but paint was oxidized. Took about a week to sell
