My 2009 had a dark dash. I bought a refurbished combination meter from Texas Hybrid, installed it this afternoon and still have a dark dash. I believe I installed it correctly. The car runs. The 12V has juice. The fuses look good. The hybrid shows 3 bars. Is there another cause or should I re-install the new combi meter to be sure I've done it right?

My first post. I just replaced the combi meter in my 2009 Prius with a guaranteed part, I believe correctly. The 12V has juice and the hybrid shows 3 bars. Should I try the install again or is there another possible cause? Thanks.

Try reaching out to Matt at THB for ideas, then go over your work and test before buttoning it all back up is a good idea.

You need to check what fuse and circuit supplies the voltage to that heads up display speedometer whatever you want to call it I have not consulted the electrical manual for the car to do this but I'm having similar problems over several years doesn't matter it's similar to yours I've replaced mine before and had it not working . Reset everything and generally it comes on etc I have not had a bad part yet that would not eventually come on they all keep telling me it is no question the capacitors on the board of every one of these I've owned from high mileage to low mileage takeouts to little old lady cars every one of mine has bad capacitors okay I can't argue that so one of these days I'll get around to ordering the one from Texas hybrid and we'll see. I personally believe there's a redundant circuit or there two 12 volt feeds to that section of the supply voltage and when it doesn't see both of the 12 volts from two different wires it doesn't power up what makes that happen I don't know exactly It's just a guess on my part. But I can't believe that all five or six displays I have are all bad truly I can't really swallow that.

Thanks. There is no fuse specifically for the dash that I could find. I will just pull all the fuses one at a time and check.

    Welcome!!

I agree with @SFO. It's possible to get a CM from Matt that's DOA, but that would be very rare because he's so good at it. It's more likely that one of the ribbon connectors isn't all the way in or you forgot that little connector on the side of the meter. Plenty of opportunities to miss something on reassembly which is why it's wise to test it before you button up the whole dash.

You might want to look at wiring diagrams in the service manual and find what power and ground circuits go to the CM. All those go through the connections that are under the dash panel with the power button in it.

You can do some testing with "minimal" disassembly - enough to pop that panel (but leave the power button plugged in), check voltages where needed.

You might have to pull the CM again anyway to test "at the unit".
