Just the INFO display is not working

For some reason, my 2009 Prius Info (the screen that shows the current MPG and recent history) is blank.

The Climate, Map, Maintenance and other displays work normally, but the Info display is totally blank.

Weird.

 

I think I answered my own question. Thanks for the suggestions though.

It's not the auxiliary battery. I changed that out a couple months ago. For a car with over 210,000 miles, it's really in remarkable shape. I'm always amazed at how much the car is working like it actually should be. Up until this one, my cars have been literally falling apart by the time they're at 130,000 miles or so. But then again, I've usually had *brand name censored* vehicles.

I called it the Info display because that's what the button that I usually push on the steering Is labeled. That particular screen is actually titled Consumption. Hitting the Info button next to the display brings up the Information Menu display, not the Consumption display. From the Information Menu, I found I had to select the Trip Info item to get where I wanted to go. After all the years and miles we've had this vehicle, I'd forgotten how to get into that particular screen, and it's not obvious.

Having this problem makes me sound like a Prius noob, but my wife and I have driven this car for about 150,000 miles. I've also got a Gen 3 we've driven for about 80,000 miles. The steering wheel buttons are second nature. Calling up that particular screen, (which is about the only one we really use) using the alternate method isn't straightforward, or obvious because of the different names. I'm not a tech noob here either. I've programmed industrial control systems and SCADA displays. Calling a display by three different names - Consumption, Info, and Trip Info is something I wouldn't do on the systems I worked on..


Here's the real issue. It seems like I'm losing the buttons on the steering wheel. The only one on the right side that seems to be still working is the voice command button. I'm sure there are a few threads some cable or connector that goes to the steering wheel buttons that I need to fix. When the button I normally push to bring up the "Consumption" display didn't work, I had to find an alternate route to that display. Hence the looking like a total Prius noob.

 

Got a new one (Toyota off ebay) - installed it and everything works as it should. The world is back to spinning in "well-greased grooves".
