Cold People Tom Rob Smith From goodreads "The world has fallen. Without warning, a mysterious and omnipotent force has claimed the planet for their own. There are no negotiations, no demands, no reasons given for their actions. All they have is a message: humanity has thirty days to reach the one place on Earth where they will be allowed to exist… Antarctica. Cold People follows the perilous journeys of a handful of those who endure the frantic exodus to the most extreme environment on the planet. But their goal is not merely to survive the present. Because as they cling to life on the ice, the remnants of their past swept away, they must also confront the urgent challenge: can they change and evolve rapidly enough to ensure humanity’s future? Can they build a new society in the sub-zero cold? Original and imaginative, as profoundly intimate as it is grand in scope, is a masterful and unforgettable epic."
I wrote a story in school and the teacher asked if I read 'metamorphosis' but I didn't at the time. I read it soon after. My story was about being a fish and living in the neighbors pool.
I need a refresher on real history before watching 'Oppenheimer." #44 on the wait list for 9 copies. Wait time: About 10 weeks Um....maybe I'll watch the movie first. Since August is only a couple of weeks away, I anticipate a little discussion about this 2005 book.
I enjoy Mr. Bennet ... any time I see a movie or play adaptation, I'm watching to see how they're gonna play him.
agreed, he is entertaining, and i like to think i'm somewhat like him. but todays women are not much like mrs. bennet, so it can be difficult to emulate him in every way. for instance, i have no shot at privacy in my library i did love the scene where elizabeth turns down her cousin mr. collins matrimonial request. mrs. bennet goes to mr. bennet to ask him to change elizabeths mind, and he says,'elizabeth, if you don't marry mr. collins your mother will never speak to you again. and if you do marry mr. collins, i will never speak to you again.'
Drowning: The Rescue of Flight 1421 T.J. Newman For some reason this was an emotiinal book for me. It was a quick read.
Just finished the luminaries. 830 pages, don’t bother. Starting guns, germs and steel. Heard about it years ago. Looks interesting, but a tome. I’ll wade in and see how it goes
