What was your oil change interval? By the book or?

 

Congratulations on the happy 10 years. Unfortunately these cars were engineer to do exactly what you're describing for 10 years. So going forward, you may just be a little less happy

 

just over 302,000 miles on mine. Did the head gasket about 600 miles back.
It had just started to leak coolant in the #1 piston.
I had planned on changing it in a few weeks anyway, but a misfire on #1, and a little
knocking on a cooler morning, and slight coolant loss forced me to do it sooner.

I don't understand why so many seem to have problems with the timnig chain. It was
the easiest one I've ever done! I turned it over 720 degrees before installing the timing cover
and all the marks lined up. And another 720 degress after releasing the timing chain tensioner
and all 3 marks lined up.

It started right up and made a horrible knocking noise for about 3 or 4 seconds then smoothed out.

It runs so much smoother since I cleaned off all the carbon from the pistons and valves.
And I'm getting 3 more mpg! Well worthe the pain and heat to do it!

 

Sounds like it doesn't burn oil, correct?

 

Yes these are so easy to work on I teach my girls how to do it and they can't believe that they stayed away from taking care of their business because of what was in their minds. And I explained to them that many years ago things were much dirtier and uglier. But Toyota's have always been pretty clean all the Toyota's I've owned you lift the hood you see nothing But silver and black the color of hoses and engine castings My old timey 2 TC hemi-head 1600 engine with 250,000 mi and being cleaned maybe once or twice and its life always look like this I still have pictures of it today this was in 1975 TE27 Corolla SR5 little fender flares on it and all that You guys probably don't even know what I'm talking about and that's just fine. It is Google able.

 

How much engine oil does it consume?
Have the EGR components (cooler, valve, & intake manifold passages) been cleaned?

 

As of June 2023, my 2012 has 270,000 miles on it. I replaced the water pump myself at 255,000. I did TMPS sensors a couple of years ago. I replaced both the hybrid battery and 12v battery at around 250,000. Still running the original brakes and they look practically new front and back. That is all I have had to repair on it. The car really looks about brand new inside, out, under the hood and bottom. I have really grown to like the car a lot.

Have the EGR components (cooler, valve, manifold passages) been cleared yet, or have you checked the EGR restriction level via OBD-II port?
Has engine oil consumption increased much?
