Just picked up a Limited yesterday and didn't notice this until I got home...the center rear seatbelt was factory installed twisted 180 degrees (see pic). Not ideal if a passenger were to put it to use. What are some random factory defects that everyone else noticed in their Gen 5?
That’s a bummer. I guess that’s better than a defect in the seat material. An easier fix for Toyota than if there was a cut or huge crease in the softex material. Yikes.
Wow that's surprising! Not, really, a defect but a mistake on the assembly line. But easily fixed...you can ask the dealer to fix it when you bring her in for her next service appointment. We've owned Toyota's for many years and even having a Check Engine Light come on is very, very rare.
That is actually a 360° twist, not a 180° twist. It looks like the lower end was connected correctly, but then the belt was twisted a full 360° turn counterclockwise looking from above before passing through the top slit. You can try to turn the belt a full 360° turn clockwise looking from above through the top slit, and that could possibly solve your problem.
Mine too. You can fix it by "calibrating" the seats- basically, move the power seat to all of the extents for 2 seconds in all axis, then the memory seats will work.
The only issue with buying now is that you are paying much more than what you would be paying in a year or two.
Seat memory works after resetting it per JNemin. There’s a good video on youtube for this: Twisted rear seatbelt must have been an assembly error. Cant fix unless it’s taken apart on one end. I’m actually surprised how little is wrong (nothing else) with the car for a first year.
It may be possible to fix it yourself. The top belt-passing slit is very narrow, but you may be able to turn the belt through the top slit with some effort. Try to gradually fold the belt into two starting at one belt edge/slit corner and move the folded edge toward the opposite side. Note that your belt is twisted 360°; so, you need to do this twice.
Can the top anchor point spin around on a rivet or bolt, or is it fixed: If it can turn around, then this could be a path to un-twisting the belt. And a possible path to having been put on right, but twisted by later fumbling.
What you circled is not an anchor. It is a stop that prevents the belt from sliding in further. You wouldn't be able to slide the belt out if it were an anchor. I already explained twice that it could be possible to turn the belt through the top slit. See my previous post and my first post.
Or you can just use a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in tape to disconnect the belt at the lower connection point. Though you might have to remove the seat bottom to get easy access to the screwdriver access point.
