Collision parking sensors repair?

    I was rear ended and the driver hit and ran away. Other than that, I would have to claim through my own insurance. The issues I have, other than cosmetics, I am worried the parking sensors no longer work. Although there's no code, I was backing up at home and I noticed the parking sensors are not beeping. I would assume the auto parking feature is not going to work as well. Is this repairable under the body shop, or would I have to get the cosmetic repaired, then take it to a dealer to confirm the sensors work?

    Best to claim under your own insurance, the damage will cost you more in the long run than the deductible you have. And it won't count against you since it wasn't your fault

    Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
    I had a similar accident a couple of years ago, driver stayed, but was not insured.
    Anyway, the body shop I used had no problem dealing with the sensors -- I think they deal with that sort of stuff all the time -- and the car came back fully functional and looking like new. But, my claim was quite a bit more that I would have expected based on the damage, so it was definitely worth using insurance for the repair.

    I handed over my video to my insurance. And they located the driver and the insurance carrier for that car, funny how someone "forgets" they just rear ended someone...

    Should I request the body shop to confirm AND write it down on the work order (thus it would be covered under their repair warranty) that they checked the sensors and checked the self parking ?

    If that would make you feel more comfortable, but I just let my body shop do their thing. When it was done, I had plenty of time to check it out afterwards. The body shop I used assigned one lead technician to my car and I could call him directly any time I had questions or concerns.

    I believe (but do not know) that most insurance companies in the US must fix your vehicle to "like new" condition unless you request otherwise -- note that "like new" allows for the use of aftermarket parts -- so if something isn't right when you get your car back you can ask for further repairs.
