My Toyota bZ4X pictures and video

    While I was getting an oil change on my 2022 Prius Prime Limited in West Coast Toyota of Long Beach yesterday, I got to sit in a bZ4X in their showroom. The Gen 5 Prius Prime XSE they had in their showroom was sold quickly the day before; so, I didn't get it to see it. :( By the way, their service department, unlike the other Toyota service departments I have been to in the LA area, is excellent, and I highly recommend them for service.

    bZ4X is a good-looking, spacious, and luxurious vehicle.

    I couldn't see the information display behind the steering wheel. This is taken exactly from my eye level. I am guessing I will have the same problem with my Gen 5 Prius Prime SE.

    The seats are mostly cloth with some faux leather trim, which is nice, as you get to enjoy the comfort of cloth with some luxury touch of faux leather.

    Only after I adjusted the steering wheel all the way down, I could barely see the information display. This photo is taken exactly from my eye level. I don't know if this is a comfortable driving position though. Again, I expect the same problem with the Gen 5 Prius/Prius Prime.

    The multimedia display is very large and nice. The dash material is cloth as well, which is very nice.

    20% of the parts of Toyota's first EV is from China. :eek: DC fast charging is discouraged to preserve battery life, especially in cold weather. It is stated that due to supply-chain problems, the vehicle comes with only a single smart-key fob, but sometime in the future, a second one will be provided.

    The interlocking mechanism on the charge-ports caps is interesting. You cannot open the DC-charging port without opening the AC-charging port first, but you can close both ports at the same time.

    Did you adjust the seat too? From the photo, it appears to be up all the way. Here's my eye view.

    Do the opposite, lower both the steering-wheel and seat. The height can be varied quite a bit and it is easy to overlook that option.

    The display needs to be above the steering wheel, not through the hole of the steering wheel.

    Hopefully the Gen 5 Prius is better than the bZ4X. You cannot adjust the seat and steering wheel randomly and have a good driving position.

    I think we like the same dealership! I took the same pictures at West Coast Toyota when I picked up my Prius Prime XSE Premium last Monday.

    Btw, I didn’t have any problem looking at the information display after I adjusted the steering wheel and the seats.

    The 2023 Prius Prime XSE was the dealer’s first Prius prime but the sale fell through and was still on display when I picked up my car. No problem as the next in line just picked it up!

    So, the seating area of the faux-leather seats on Gen 5 Prius Prime is actually cloth. That is nice.

    Guardian gray. They didn't have matte, medium shades of gray until a few years ago, but they were abundant in the distant past.

    Gray is the most produced color for Gen 5 after the distant top-produced color—white.

    Red and blue are hard to find. They seem to be producing plenty of black for Prius Prime but not many for Prius. Silver is plenty for both Prius and Prius Prime.

    I test drove a bZ4X at the Denver auto show a couple of weeks ago. I had no trouble seeing the dash. It wasn't close to being blocked. I'm 5'7". I don't know why we have had such a different experience. I like to sit high in all vehicles. Also, maybe I like the seat back less reclined than you do.

    All Toyota paints are metallic, regardless of whether it says metallic or not in the name.

    They are not cloth but rather SofTex synthetic leather on the heat cushion and backrest. They are breathable compared to other area of the seat.

    This was how it was described to me before I saw the car.

    “Guardian gray is a flat, minimally metallic gray. It’s just not dark sparkly gray. Not like the old one, magnetic gray wise, this is the new kind of gray. It has minimal sparkle to it but it’s more like what BMW and some of the European car colors are going to.”

    To me it’s like painted on plastic look.

    It's the metallic gray color of our minivan. She who must be obeyed hates it. There's got to be at least a dozen different shades in any strip mall parking lot - from slightly lighter to slightly darker.
    Looking at those Prius rims? Rubber band tires stretched over their large size? Call me twisted, but some of the huge potholes around here? I have to smirk when I see fast drivers hit those things at speed. And boy - the curb rash that they get all too easily? (smirking again)

    yup, a lot of issues with this car for me. sadly, i was looking forward to it.

    i saw a ton of clay in florida last winter. i figured there was a paint shortage. you can have any color you want, as long as it's clay :p
