Hello prius folks I recently took my car in for maintenance at 115k and afterwards I was told my cad is good and was given a list of things I have to change or do soon , even though. I’m attaching an image and would love your input and expertise If this makes sense or necessary at that current mileage of 115k? Or just trying to cash ?
My dealership insisted the oil pan is leaking and it needs the gasket replaced [6 hour job and $3000+]. I shifted to having all maintenance done by a local shop that we trust. The local guy says my Prius is cleaner than most vehicles they work on, I have changed the [synthetic] oil every 5,000 miles and we are not up to 195k, It has never consumed oil. I will soon be passing 200k, and this vehicle has never consumed a single quart of oil My dealership is just looking for ways to gouge customers.
I am aware that dealer would be criminally over priced but what I’d like to confirm , do those things need to be done given the mileage ? Essential?
nothing essential on there. follow the maintenace schedule that came with your car and consider the tranny and brake fluid at some point. if you carry shedding animals, the fan is a good idea sparks are due at 120k i think. not a hard number, they last a long time
The spark plugs are due at 120k miles or 12 years, and “relatively” reasonably priced. none of the following are in the US schedule, but worth doing, just not worth what they’re asking: transaxle fluid replacement (assuming that’s what the cryptic description entails), is worth doing, especially if it’s never been done. Fair price would be $100 USD, max. ditto for brake fluid, except $150 USD max. cleaning of the hybrid fan is good to do, but relatively easy DIY, and what they’re asking is just nuts. the MAF sensor cleaning is something you can DIY in about 10 minutes, very accessible, use a spray specd for MAF cleaning, nothing else. Their quote is especially absurd for this. ever had a brake service? Toyota USA recommends tri-yearly or 30k miles. Might be slightly overkill, but worthwhile, at least every 4~5 years or 40~50k miles. This is not just for when pads are at min thick or rotors shot; it’s a periodic inspect, clean and lube. $400 is reasonable for all four corners.
What is it, 18 years or 180k miles? (Maybe 15/15?) It does highlight the absurdity of some of the intervals, specifically: the same plugs, one side or the other of the California state line. but yeah, a California dealership should know this.
150k in 5 states. A California owner should know that, too. Nobody has explained yet why my plugs won't last just as long as they do in those states.
