... friendly proposition, to our whacked-out friends across the political divide?

Double dog daring you, mono 'e mono, Gorman to Manteca, and (AND) back, you in your electric toaster oven special; me, in any one of three gasoline vehicles I own.

Your choice.

Gorman to Manteca, I'm giving you a downhill start. Finish line, Manteca to Gorman, you've got a 4 thousand foot ascent.

Already thinking to yourself, "... how my going to cheat this guy?" Aren't you? It's the very nature of you. We anticipate that.

Fair 'n square, I turn in my bona fide time stamped gas receipts, plus my time stamped refueling receipt, from Costco, Manteca. You, turn in all bona fide recharging receipts, plus your time stamped Costco receipt, from our halfway point.

Stakes are high. If you win, I buy you and your boyfriend two happy meals each, your favorite sodie-pop, a double dip of your favorite iced cream cone, and a hand autographed portrait, of Pete Buttigieg, for your living room! If I win? You reimburse my gas receipts, forge Carrol Shelby's name on the back of each of them, promise to do your best, not to pitch a fit; don't go crying.

I'm thinking you'd be wise, choosing up my hybrid. Chose my go fast car, reimbursing me on that's going to set you back four tanks, 100 racing unleaded, a cool US$600 bux. Choosing up my hybrid, only US$80.

No prisoners, wild-wild west, irony so thick you could cut it with a butter knife, guy driving his sissy-boy electric, reimbursing my gas bill, for serving him up a heaping helping of humble pie, over a friendly cross country drive -

... so, here's the drill: we arrive at Gorman, California, our point of departure, 3:00 am. Sharp. We tech each other's cars, take photographs, record our VIN's, scribe each others' odometers, each other's tread depths. We lace up the gloves, we hit the road, 4:00 am. You first, by all means. I anticipate my return, back to Gorman, well before noontime hour. I figure I ought to have you mopped up, your doors blown off, long before we ever reach halfway. I anticipate you'll welsh, that you'd prefer not bother showing your face at the finish line - Samuel, 04 Ruthiemobile -

... race rigging 101 for idiots, were I the guy tapped to rig the outcome, the way I would do it would be, (1) engage a market advocate (e.g., this would appeal to the FMC people; they have something to gain from this), to provide six identical - right down to the door ding - Mach e electrics. Next, I'd (2) insist upon a mandate, all contestants download the Strava app, to their handhelds, to publicly geo-locate each vehicle, real time. The idea in mind, oldest trick in the book, a relay, staged at points along the route at each estimated point of the electric vehicle's terminal range, passing off the cell phone, by all appearances, the gasoline vehicle racing only one electric toaster over car, when in the vernacular, the deck was stacked, six. Trick would be, the Mach e departing Gorman would be the one finishing in Gorman, once having handed off the handheld, the vehicle placed on a dynomometer, to run-out the odometer to the correct accumulated mileage, fully recharged, then staged somewhere close to the finish, awaiting the final hand-off. Then, thereafter, we kick the whole thing to the FMC marketing people to run amok, flooding advertisement spaces, "... Ford Mach e humiliates stupid Prius petrol-heads in Cannonball Rally!" - Samuel, '04 Ruthiemobile.

Sorry but your posting is confusing:
Is this the proposed route:
upload_2023-1-5_21-50-31.png

With an elevation change of ~3,500 ft?
upload_2023-1-5_22-18-58.png

My 2019 Tesla would require one shorter Supercharger session between the start and ending location. There are multiple Supercharger locations along the route so I might shift to adjust for the elevation change.

What is the 'winning' criteria:
• Fastest time?
• Cheapest cost?
• Smugness at beating another troll?
BTW, this is Priuschat. A Prius is a hybrid electric vehicle but a former Prius owner, I hang with my Tesla Model 3. Perhaps some of our Prius Prime owners might enjoy humbling you.

• Quickest impound?
• Impound with the greatest speed limit overage?
• Highest bail?
I'd be happy to make arrangements for, um, "spectators" and "escorts". The public geotracking should make it easier.

If speed limits may not be exceeded, I read the thing as differing in times required for chemical energy reloading of the petrol vehicle vs. electrical energy reloading of the other.

Those are known to markedly differ. E-vehicle buyers (all?) know this. I've seen charging rates cleverly expressed as (some number <20) miles per hour. For a petrol vehicle, they are supersonic. But it's just a convenience in exchange for putting so much more CO2 where it ought to not be. Some people do not feel inconvenienced by that at all. Free country eh?

Winner's rewards by my reading seem asymmetrical. You lose and buy $20 of food. Opponent loses and buys $600 of fuel for you. I think it will take more creative goading to acquire a victim, so, drink up and try again. Til then I read it as asking someone else to put their money where your mouth is.

I think the OP needs to get in touch with member @AzusaPrius

They could do the race route after setting the rules.

... the laughing stock of organized motor sport, describing Formula E to an archetypic layman on sleepy, backwater message board would be, an autistic special needs offspring begotten of motor sport husbandry, having mated an 80 year old NASCAR stud, with a golf-kart swayback mare:

'Worst category to do this' - Formula E drivers slam protestors - The Race

Simple environmental reasoning, what you can reasonably expect from your state-of-the-art EV, going 9/10s on a spirited cross-country drive would be, approximate range, 63 miles; duration 46' 34.509":

Berlin E-Prix: Nick Cassidy Wins Tactical Race to Throw Title Fight Wide-Open - The Checkered Flag

Mind you, Formula E is merely an economy run. It's drivers never (NEVER) go 10/10ths over an entire race distance:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_ePrix

D = R*T, being kind, rounding up 63 miles, dividing by a rounded down 0.75 decimal minutes, yields a humble average speed, just 84 mph?

Transitive preference logic, balls out cross country drive, expect your toaster oven EV special to peter out, positive case scenario, 46 minutes. If that? Setting cruise control on my 20 year old hybrid, 88 mph, I go Lancaster to Manteca, on a 10 gallon tank.

Not in our lifetime, not in your grandchildren's lifetime -- no Greta Thundburg special is ever going to beat my 20 year old hybrid, going cross country. And, everybody knows it.

I'm sorta wondering if you REALLY have an autographed photo of the Transportation Secretary, and if so how you came into possession of such an item....

Indeed, I prefer daily traffic light light races to the speed limit with my Tesla. First across the intersection, lane choice, and +100 yards ahead of the traffic reaching the posted speed limit. I especially enjoy these mini 'street racing' against loud motorcycles, cars, and diesels.

This weekend, I had to help a friend's daughter with her first essay for university. It was psychology, which is not my thing at all, so it used terms I wasn't familiar with.

This was the first time my friend's daughter had written a university-level text in English. She only moved to Australia from China at the start of the year, and she's clearly not a born linguist. It took me ages to get through it: it really was quite difficult to understand.

Still, in comparison to this nonsense it was f---ing Shakespeare.
